no not quite........ you cannot just blindly start removing shims without knowing your head clearance.......doesn't matter one bit how many shims are under the head, what matters is what the clearance is...The ideal clearance for any given engine has many variables..such as oil content of the fuel, or temperature of glowplug, engagement RPM of the clutch, tuned pipe characteristics , vehicle weight and gearing..air density, humidity etc. etc.....As a rule you want to run the tightest clearance your setup will alow...however identifying what is or is not ideal does take some skill with tuning and listening to a engine.......... Pitting is definitely from detonation, tighter head clearance can make a engine more prone to detonating, but usually only because the fuel demands were not met for the tighter head clearance....I have run engines extremely tight without any signs of pitting...but I also know how to tune, run great fuels, and cool glowplugs............ In the end a great deal of performance can be found by adjusting the head clearance, but it is not something to me messing with if your new to nitro....not unless of course your willing to learn at the cost of possibly damaging a engine if you make a mistake.....

How long does fuel usually last?
I asked a few pages back about nitro %, and 30% was the reccomendation. I have half a gallon left at present, but it hasnt been used for 7-8 months. WOuld it still be okay, or best to bin and start with new fuel?
Also, what would be the affect if I ran 25%, would it damage the motor and run like a dog?

ok will this is something im willing to learn fuel which would be 30 odennel, and i would need a cold glow plug, im pretty good at turning my cars, the listening part would be a little hard for me since im hearing imparied so i pay attetion to my vision more than any thing and i know how to read a glow plug and look for sign of wear. If i can can build a car we still have the same 3 function suck bang and blow. I konw that when the head shim is changed i figure that is just like a car head gasket which up the comprison. which then i would have to open the exhuast too. so is that the same principle here. and if that hard do you guy do this step to you mod engiens.would you conseder od to be a good fuel.
What engine are you running ? and what is your current head clearance ? and what would you like your engine to do that it is not currently doing ? And which OD fuel are you running ?

depends on the fuel.......fresh fuel is always a good idea IMHO........ you can run 25%,it just has a little narrower tuning window and a little less power.......... what oil % do you intend to run ? be careful of too much oil, it makes tuning harder and temps higher.....

Wow ...now I remember reading your post about tuning without being able to hear the engine......That is a very impressive skill you have my friend !
What engine are you running ? and what is your current head clearance ? and what would you like your engine to do that it is not currently doing ? And which OD fuel are you running ?

that is a very good fuel.....with the 11% oil you wont make the highest runtimes, but the engine will run quite good..........

i run oddoneels speed blend which is a 30 percentage. aS MY hEAD CLEARACNCE AND STUFF I DONT HAVE THAT CAUSE IM NOT AT HOME JUST YET. but i have the 3.3 tmaxx which is on 5 gallons and still strong. i have the 427 i think it the losi one but it got a big red cooling head on it and i have a mach 2 .28. most of my guy at my track run the go .25 or the werks. I think we have two big straghit on the two track i go too. i had some guy almost catch me on the strait running a werks not sure which one but it caused us to fight in the corner on the second turn after it tell he jumped the track the go guys past me right up on th stragiht with the 427. but they were modded from someone. so this year i dont want to get past on a straight. so i got this mach 2 .28 for 50 buck and i can push the sleve out just buy turning the fly so it a good deal but after watching you video on the werks and the os .25 i dont thinks it gonna have the balls to pass them on the straight i want to win a race this year not come in 5th
I see ! well a modded race .21 is always going to have the advantage over any of the Mach engines...The Mach's are not bad of course, but they are definitely outgunned against some of the higher end race engines...You probably can squeeze a little more out of the Mach with head clearance, but unfortunately its not going to be the silver bullet I think you are looking for...My best advice is to slowly reduce your head clearance in small increments and test the performance........lower it down by 0.05 mm at a time if you have the shim options...... what you will see is when the engine hits the sweet spot the engine will run crisper at lower temps and idle down very clean...if your too tight the engine will start being picky to tune, high idling being one of the first signs......If your too loose the engine will run decent, but tend to load up easier and need to run at higher temps to make good power......

Neal, how is your Clocked B2? was considering this as my next mill. Coming from owning your Clocked B5 Pro and Clocked Argus, wanted to try another one of your motors but more on the lower price range. Do you drill and fill the crank? What other mods are done to it? I know the stock B2 is supposed to be a stump puller so does the Clocked one have the same bottom with a little more on the top?

I can modify one of those without any issues...I just would have to measure the engine up and calculate changes I can make to it.....chances are good that I could make substantial improvements to it...It just will be a bit of work to do properly, as there is a pile of measuring I must do to any new engine I develop.....port angle, port volume, head volume, squish angle, squish velocity, crank timing etc. etc..... there is a lot of work that goes into developing the modifications for these engines, or at least to achieve the level of performance you would expect from one of our engines.....

ok will get on the head shim part i apprciate it. And how much does it normal cost to ship a motor to the us In illinois cause i really might just get the.25 os or the werks modded one those look like the have balls on the straight but the os did look faster in the video on it to. but it said it kinda uncontroable for the os is that right

Now that truly is impressive. Thre are a few youngins in my area
that I have tried to teach engine tuning to. But, they just can't
seem to catch on to it. I think they hear just fine, but they just
don't listen.
My hat's off to ya imrob.
