I think the auto sets current for you to a safe level

Uhhh no I still set the amps on Auto mode but I think it will adist it as it goes like it lowers the amps when it is almost full but manual keeps it at a constant pace am I right?

I believe you are essentially correct. In Auto mode the current setting is a maximum limit, the charger may decide to lower the current below that value. I've never read a good explanation of how it determines this or experimented with one to try to understand it some. Suspect it has something to do with how quickly the voltage is rising, but just a guess.

A clip from the manual for reference. If someone knows more it would be interesting to learn.

In “Aut” mode, you need to set the upper limit of charge current to avoid from higher feeding current that may damage the battery.
Because some batteries of low impedance and small capacity can lead to the
higher charge current by the processor at automatic charge mode. But in “Man” mode, it will charge the battery with the charge current you set at the display.
