I don't see anywhere on the PC app where it shows updates for Hotwire, only the ESC. If you can point out where it would be, I can check.

It shows you what is available. So 272 is as high as you can go; for the latest update.

That's for the ESC, not Hotwire.

Mine did the same thing. Only when on the phone. I assumed it was updated yet still just shows it for some reason.

Thanks. That's basically what I was trying to confirm (i.e. a bug with the mobile software).

What settings would you set in the ESC for the Pro4 HD 4300 with an old RX8 in a losi SCTE 4x4? I assume a 15/40 gearing.

Really nobody knows?

I'm struggling to find out why this Pro4 HD is running hot. Its a new motor. Are you guys sure the RX8 gen 1 can handle this motor?

Mahjik 04-14-2019 07:02 PM

Usually heat comes down to timing and gearing. Have you tried adjusting your gearing first?

Yes, several recommend 15/40, I even tried going 14/40 with the same results in temp.

I am going to assume you are racing?
Try gearing it up a couple of teeth... it will calm the motor down and allow it to run cooler
Set your punch down to 6
Choose timing profile C2... no timing adjustment

The motor is a beast LOL... lots of HP to play with.

lowspark 04-14-2019 08:22 PM

I've changed to the 4600, find it is a smoother motor.

What I've read, but not needed to troubleshoot myself, is that the general rule of thumb (but not absolute) is:

Motor hot = undergeared
ESC hot = overgeared

Obviously there are too many variables for that to be absolute, but that's a good guide to start out with... With that, as lowspark mentioned you'd want to go up rather than down in gearing.

How would I go about temping the ESC? Point at the heat sink or the plastic body?

I do have a 16T pinion I could try.

I would get readings of both.

Few questions...

Hi folks,

Downloaded hotwire app from the store to have a look. (I am considering purchasing a couple of BE for 17.5/13.5.)
Q: I could not see a way to change throttle/brake frequency nor apply active drag (in demo mode at least). Does the option exist once connected to an actual esc (maybe just BE)? Does anyone actually use active drag in off road racing and if so does it cause heat issue for the motor? Is my original hotwire circa 2007 of any use with current gen stuff?

thanks,
Michael

I think the hotwire demo is older than the brake and throttle freq adjustments that is why you don't see those adjustments. The original hotwire is still supported and fully supports the current ESCs. I still use mine, note that the original hotwire does not utilize Bluetooth it is strictly connected to a computer or phone by wire.

Mahjik 04-17-2019 09:23 AM

Yes, the Demo does not have all the functionality exposed. I will take photos for you showing what you can configure this evening. You should be able to do everything you need with Hotwire. After working through a few hardware compatibility issues, I've been really impressed with Hotwire and it's ease of use.
