This is what (IMHO) an RX-8 solder job should look like. No extra globs of solder, wire fitting neatly in the slots, not on top. BTW, That's 12 gauge.
http://s92437987.onlinehome.us/ebayp...ight-3-rx8.jpg Tin the wire first, then squeeze it until it fits in the slot. Put flux in the slot, put the wire in the slot, add flux to the top of the wire. add a little solder to the iron and touch it to the wire until it flows into the slot, tinning the inside of the post. BAM! DONE! 2 seconds or less per joint - with the right iron! 3.2mm tip: Bah! Not sure why people are so enamored with Hakko's and their clones. I use a Weller 4033S, nominal 1100F tip temperature, turned down to position 4 (out of 5) on a WLC-40 base. Look at the results. As far as using solder wick, I always put flux on both sides of the wick, clean most solder off the iron tip and use the iron to press the wick into the area where solder needs to be removed. Until you've done it with flux on the wick you won't believe how much difference it makes. |
