Viper VTX10r problem initializing
#1
I bought a short course truck second hand that had a VTX10r in it with a 17.5 motor and decided to run it in mod with a Viper 10.5 and it ran great for quals and during the main after about 7 minutes I suddenly lost all power but still had steering so I assumed I might not have charged the battery and brought it back to the pits put a new battery in and the esc won't initialize. I temped the motor after my run and it was 135 which was consistent with the temps I was running and the esc was cool to the touch, I inspected the sensor wire and it was fully seated and I even tried a new wire but still when I push power the esc turns on with only the red power light on and I can't enter program mode. Is it possible the esc died or am I missing something? The previous owner said the esc was only about 6-7 months old and he only ran it with a 17.5 in blinky mode and the esc limit is 2.5 so there's no way a 10.5 should have over amped it especially with motor temps of only 135-140, any suggestions would be appreciated.

I had the same issue with mine. I would run, some times 5 minutes, some times 20 minutes. Then it would shut down and nothing. It would not program with the box. I tried posting on the Viper thread and was told a few things. What I ended up doing was using the Viper software on the PC to program the ecs. I turned off all temp sensing and I have been good to go since.
If you still can not program it, send Viper a message. They have good stuff.

Where you getting any error lights when it first shut off?
You can try to do the reflash of the software -- if you don't have the VLink, you can send the unit to us and we would do it for free to see if it helps. Its hard to say 100% either way from the description. Would also try to recalibrate with the radio - its possible that it is not getting the signal, if you only get the red power light after you turn it on.
Please feel free to PM me or email me at [email protected] if you have more questions.
