I am liking 72/32 but track is around 16 seconds for D4 with 58* timing. I move between 32 and 34 pinion for track size.

Ya I tried 72/32 and while my temps dropped tremendously it was just wayyyy slower than 69/33. I am going to try 72/34 bc it is a 5.50 FDR and I am currently running a 5.43 and with this being mainly a RPM motor I am thinking just that little bit more of bottom end could help me.

Ok so this motor is BALLISTICALY fast I mean I can hang with Mod guys down the straight away and might just be one of the fastest stock cars at our track right now, but it gets so HOT! I am running a B5M at 69/33 right at 50* timing and after 7 mins I'm over 160*. While that is not over heating it by any means I still don't like it and would rather be around 140-150. Is my only option putting a fan on the motor to drop temps? Bc I really don't want to do that but if I have to I will.

It seems as tho these short stack motors just naturally run hotter bc my buddy was running and R1 and he said 160-170 is what he always runs and its no big deal...

And no I don't want to gear down bc it is just so much slower when I drop to a 32 and temps don't really drop that much.

Make sure you have zero ESC timing, and no more than 15% drag brake set.

anybody know the trick to get a timing bell screw to screw in. One of the two screws will not catch and screw in after I backed it out too much.

I'm running a HW just stock. Maybe this could be my issue

I am still curious for those having heating issues if it could be related to the ESC? dbowen is also having temp issues and he has the HW stock listed also :confused:

Do you have another ESC? If not maybe you could borrow one or let someone else run the motor in their car?

Yes, the ESC can make it run hotter, even though it runs good. The programing makes it run smooth, but the quality of the components inside create more resistance and therefore more heat. And I'm not knocking HW since I run one in my SCT 410. But it can make the motor run hot due to esc components. I run a Advanced Electronics black diamond esc,(mostly because I always drooled over them and got a HELL of a deal on a used one) and I can push it as hard as I want with my 17.5 and it barely gets over ambient room temp. Its made with all Mil-Spec components. lower price speed controls are built with components from the lowest bidder so there is a variance in component quality, some run cool, some real hot and no telling for sure what your gonna get.

I had the Justock and yes my motor and esc ran hotter than when I switched to the Hobbywing 3.1 stock spec which is basically the exact same as the regular 3.1 only a plastic case instead of all aluminum. But yes the ESC deff affects the temps bc my dropped when I got the 3.1 but it still is running hotter than I like but I put a fan on my motor last night so I should be all good now running around 140-150. Will find out this weekend bc I have a big stock race I am going to at the Ohio RC Factory.

Hello guys , I'm new to trinity and ended up buying 2 d4 17.5's off of here without knowing much about trinity. The first one I got is an express motorsports 17.5 tornado ht and the second one is just a 17.5 d4 with a 12.5 ht rotor and aluminum timing ring installed,that also came with the purple rotor . I'm leaning to keep the express motorsports one but I guess I'm looking for some words of wisdom. I run blinky short course with an sc10.2 , mip stock pucks system , leaning towards 25/75 gearing 45* timing. I run medium size indoor clay track.
Just lookin for some advice

Basically they are both the same motor. The Express Motorsports claims they match the components and check alignment for best performance.

I would test them both, see which one you like. One may have more or less torque and this is key for your SCT.

The timing is right for SCT, the gearing is a good start and you may need to adjust +/- for the particular motor and track conditions.

What is everyone running in there 2wd buggies. I've seen some people saying the 1s short stack being the new ticket.

Asking this question is like asking which is the better car :lol:

I have had really good luck with the Trinity D4 series, and especially like the 1S in my buggy. Waiting for my new LOSI 22T 2.0 and I will see how well the motor(s) works in the ST.

I run at the factory too.

Hw just stock, trakpower 90c 4500, srx2mm fdr 5.32 timing at 50 comes off at like 105 lol with the HT rotor

Tried 55 and 60 timing and the motor got slower and felt crazy soft on bottom, 50 seemed the best overall

looking for opinions on which d4 based motor to run in 17.5 4wd buggy . choices are between d4 1s , d4 maxzilla and the express version "tornado" . all are same price through amain . currently leaning towards the express motor version . currently running a trackstar 17.5 and very competitive with it , what do u guys think ?
