Default Heat

I have a Tlr 22 2.0 buggy and have been running this motor in the maxzilla version paired up to a hobbywing just stock and am using a reedy #602. I was geared at 32/70 but dropped to 29/70 to combat heat. Timing is what the motor came with which looks to be 50. The two issues I have are 1. It ran really hot with the 32/70 gearing. Typically came off the track at 160 to 180 after 6 mins. I dropped to the 29/70 gearing and the temps came down to 155. I didn't really notice a difference in power with this change but the other problem I'm combating is power fade and that did not change. The track is a tight technical track with a very short straight. Just looking for pointers at this point because I am puzzled!

Back off the timing. That'll reduce the heat and should improve torque at lower rpm, which would be good on a smaller track.

Ok thanks ill try that out. I'm also going to put a fan on the motor. Hopefully both of those things will help

yeah, i have the HW just stock too. Wanted to try it cause alot use it and I dont care what people say I had to switch back to a higher amp esc. It just got too hot(motor and esc) for the gearing I wanted to run. Switched to better esc and all those issues vanished. Run my Fantom D4 12.5/maxzilla motor geared 32/69 and 56* timing. Its a beast.

sorry but now the HW just stock is in my 9 yr olds car. Sure its still fast and works for alot poeple but with my experiences just not there.

This is a good point! I ran the LOSI ESC and it would get hot and the motor would also be hot. Then I went to the ORCA VXX and now my D4's running at 55-60* never get hot, barely warm. I run FDR 5.48 (31/70).

I wonder if those with heat issues need to upgrade their ESC's? Not sure have not tracked those with D4 heat issues what ESC they are running.

Thewas my second guess but that's an expensive guess lol. I figured it might be a tad less efficient or something and would cause excessive heat build up in the motor and or the esc itself. I have an Orion r10 I'll try out just to compare

Anyone know while the D4 13.5 Maxzilla is priced less than the standard D4 13.5 motor? Wondering if there is a difference in RPM or what.

Actually there is not a price difference, it could be the location your are ordering from did a price drop.

The standard price for both is $99, unless it a certified motor $149.

There is a difference in the motors, the standard is a generic motor balanced RPM/Torque and the maxzilla is a high torque motor.

Thanks, I am aware of the difference in motors/rotors (12.5MM/TEP1112) etc, looking to see if there is a dramatic difference in RPM - can't find the specs. The same vendor is pricing the MAXZILLA as $10 less than the standard version. I always to to pickup the HT version of the motor - more initial punch and good torque up to the jumps. Also - I am weary about buying these from a retailer and not Trinity as maybe the low price is an indication of this motor being from the first batch.

This is true and you never know what batch they came from :-)

Does anybody have a good gear ratio and timing for a 1s short stack in a b5m?

I tried 30/69 with stock timing 58 degrees first. Came off 160. Then went with 31/69 50 degrees. Temps were lower (didnt measure them). Car was not as fast as I expected with the certified d4 shortstack

Thanks

I run my TLR 22 at 5.48 fdr. timing @ 50 and it does not get hot 140-145, 5 min? According to the Trinity techs this motor should run a fdr of 5.5-5.7.

curious as to what esc you have? Also if you are running timing in your esc dial it back zero. one more thing turn the drag brake back to no more than 15%.

I run a B5M and I have found 69/33 with about 50-54*s of timing to be the fastest for the 1S and trust me it is deff faster than anything I've ran with this gearing and it comes off about 160 after 7-8 mins about 140-150 after 5 mins.

I don't know the exact size but prob about medium size track pretty fast and flowing 20-21 sec lap times and medium to high bite. I tried running 32 and it was just soo much slower than the 33 I didn't like it at all but I am also running the 3 gear
