Here is the track. It's large for an indoor. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4g8I-mD40Yg |

Mid Motor vehicles dont accelerate as fast as rear motor. This is why I use a larger spur on my MM. My RM buggy is geared 32-34/70 where my MM is geared 28-30/72. For buggies I set the can to pull 10 amps. I cant say a specific number for the dial because it can vary from motor to motor. However 60 should be close.

I'm still testing with mine (D4 Maxzilla / HW Stock Spec V3.1 / B5M), but I think it's close. I started with 32/72, 30 degrees timing, then went 33/72, 30 degrees timing. Came of the track at 99 degrees F.
Changed to 32/69 with 40 degrees timing, came off at 114 degrees F I loaned out my 31 pinion, so I ordered some new ones, so I think I'm going to try 31/69 and bump up the timing to 50 |
What are people running for timing on average for this motor for 17.5 binky, off-road?
My motor came out of the box set at 30, I'm currently running it at 40. |

So my D4 has been great... Til tonight. I have run it for 2 club race nights and tonight for practice. Has always come off the track at 140-145* but after one of the practice sessions it pulled off at 190-195*. Nothing changes other than temp. Think the motor is still okay with it getting thst warn for a short time? Didn't smell weird or burnt so figured I would ask

I would look everything over to make sure you don't have a bearing going out or something that is causing drag in the drive line. Good Luck! |
I just ordered a Fantom Ion V5 Works Pro Select, have a couple ?'s.
1st would the 32-34/69 be a good starting point? Is there a Fantom specific thread on here? Thanks! |
I'm running a D4 17.5 Maxzilla with an extreme stock esc in a mid motor stadium truck. Felt like I was driving a freight train. Started off geared 26/80 with 45 motor timing then dropped to 24/80. Didn't seem to make a difference. Didn't have any other spur gears but stopped off at the hobby shop and picked up a 76 and 78 so I have some flexability. Any ideas or suggestions.

Ooops, sorry!
B5M 65'X95' track Usually med high to high grip I have found the sweet spot with the Ion5 and a Pro Select 12.5 Ht rotor to usually be around 48*-50* giving the best efficiency and power. Above 50* increases power by far but efficiency drops off quite a bit. Shoot for 150* on the can after a complete run, if you can run a fan it will allow you to pull a little more gear. Dayton |

Ok, try 33/69 at 50* timing. If temps allow, gear up.

I have noticed once you go past the 50 degree mark the motor looses a lot of bottom end and doesn't feel as linear.
