Default ESC Amperage Help

I am looking at purchasing a Hobbywing esc for a Tekin 8.5t motor. What amp esc is required to run this motor?

If you are looking at HW ESC's, they all say what motor it is suitable for....on Hobbypartz website anyways. Even with variables like on/off road, 2-3S lipo etc, its hard to go wrong.

Well it says a 60amp is enough but is it going to be bear minimum and over heat easily because i have done little research and alot of people run 120amp but i was more wondering if a lower amp esc would run the motor.

Really I would look at the v2.1 90 amp at minimum. It can be had on ebay still. For a little more peace of mind the 120 amp v2.1 and the newer v3/v3.1 would be a better choice.

Took me a bit to find it, and it's not the easiest to read. That being said, these are the logs from my eagletree with a Novak Ballistic 8.5 in a stadium truck. Max draw was just over 53 amps. So, I'd go for the 90 or 120 myself.

Keep in mind a 60A Esc is rated at 60A Constant with a burst current rating closer to 100-150. For example the Savage Flux will pull 120-150 Amps on a burst but the Mamba Monster ESC behind it is only rated at around 80 Amps continuous. It also depends on application, a 4wd Buggy will pull more amps from a 10.5 motor than a 2wd one would. I'd say a 60A Esc would more than suffice, but if the price is only a few $ extra go for the 90 or 120, better to have a bit more wiggle room

I agree, I just don't like to be that close to the max continuous if I don't have too. Like you, it's only a few bucks and I can run a faster motor if I want.

I use the HW 2.1 90a with a tekin redline gen2 8.5t in a 4wd Cat K1 Aero buggy. Works fine and stays relatively cool even with quite a bit of boost set.
