Any of you guys running 14 gauge wire instead of 12 gauge? Just got some in and weighed it. With my setup were looking at a 7-8 gram weight reduction. Not sure that worth it or even noticeable.

your running at lsr correct? there's no need for ceramic bearings beside's in the motor. get some cheap metal shielded's clean out the grease and oil them regularly. as far as cut gears get you can get em from rcrd pm slick1, or speedy's racing parts
moot's and lavery both run xfactory cars at lsr, pretty sure either of them will have no problem getting you up to speed.

Recently decided to try 17.5 non ramp buggy class. Built an X factory cubed with reedy mach2 motor. Used lightweight parts, adapted mip pucks, smc factory spec shorty, took seals off of bearings and cleaned and lightly oiled them, etc. The car came in at 1470 rtr. I added 30 grams to bring it up to weight. The speed and acceleration difference between my car and the fastest cars was huge.

I was going to suggest the same thing. With this setup, you can try a 66T spur and I've had pretty good luck with it. Combine the smaller spur, the less weight of the slipper eliminator and a lighter top shaft and you should see some better acceleration.

Instant punch, great for 180 turns that come into a jump.
Been running this on my 22 2.0 for about 3 weeks. http://www.exotekracing.com/b5-b4-t4...spur-gear-hub/ |
We had to have our motors tech'd at the last race and the lowest legal rating (Internal resistance of the motors possibly) was 21.6. My motor came in at 23.7 which wasn't great but not too bad. It was only when I saw another motor that barely passed at 21.7 that I realized what a big difference there really was! This stock 17.5 ripped! He must have had the perfect gearing/timing too, because it looked like his car pulled just as hard as the best 13.5's. I spoke with the driver and he had taken the best out of three or four motors to build that one special hot rod 17.5.

17.5 is all about keeping momentum up in the corners since you don't have the unlimited power of mod. all the lightweight bits and goodies will help but learning to drive consistently and smoothly will yield the best results.
|
This is so true. In 17.5 is very apparent who is a good driver and who isn't. It doesn't really matter what mods you have if you can't drive clean.

question where do you get 21.6 as the legal limit of the internal resistance?

When they start teching cars at my track, I'll go somewhere else. I don't cheat, but when club races are being teched, they are being taken too seriously and not fun.

I'm not sure exactly what they were measuring but at tech inspection they hooked clips to the A side and the C side of the motor and measured something. I asked what the limit was and they said 21.6 for stock 17.5 is the limit. Anything lower was illegal. Then they placed a sticker on the motor with the readings.

21.1 is the ROAR minimum for IR of the stator, my Trinity Revtech Maxzilla is 21.4/21.4/21.3 and I race with a guy who owns a Big Blue Bad @$$ which is a Big blue can and 13mm rotor, and i pull him in RPM, but he gets me in torque because of the rotor. The BBA is only legal in outlaw and mod classes, but at our club races they dont tech motors.
