Tekin Hotwire App!!
#856
I've used Push Control in the past (back in 2014, with a Gen1 Rx8). Worked great for the setup I was running back then.
I'm trying to enable again, now with a Rx8 Gen3 running 258 firmware. I am setting it with the Windows PC Tekin Hotwire app. While it accepts the setting, I am not seeing the result of this setting in the car. To re-familiarize myself with how much is needed, I initially set Push Control to 25 and tested in my driveway (same thing I did in 2014, with positive, obvious results). When I didn't see the results I was expecting, I increased the value from 25 to 80. Still nothing. Did a quick Google search (and here on RCTech) only to try increasing my Neutral Width (from 5 to 15). Still not seeing Push Control adding any extra creep after coming back to neutral, whether coming off of full throttle or anywhere in between.
Can anyone offer a solution?

Right. These were the settings BEFORE attempting to enable Push Control. I changed Push Control from 'off' to 25, then to 80, with no visible results. I have been using a Futaba 4PX since they came out. This is the same radio that I've had since buying a Gen3 Rx8.

Push control is activated by the ESC knowing how much time has been spent at WOT or wide open throttle, and then when neutral is seen by the ESC, it will hold that throttle on for the setting set in the ESC. If no neutral is seen, no push control will be enabled for example.

Resurrecting an old thread! Hoping someone could help. I bought a Tekin programmable servo and the Hotwire 3.0 Bluetooth module. I downloaded the Hotwire App to my iPhone and tried to connect to my servo to program it. However, the app only appears to work with an ESC. I saw somewhere that there was a download for the servo app on the TeamTekin website, but it was an exe file for windows.
I need help! How do I program my servo with the Hotwire 3.0 and an iPhone? I don’t have a Windows laptop, only a desktop, and that isn’t very useful for changes at the track!
Any help is greatly appreciated!

The video is a bit old, but Tekin did answer someone not that long ago in the comments that it was Windows only.

Bummer. But thanks for pointing that out.

I contacted support and their official response was that it was only supported on Windows because of the power issue. However, they supply with a USB cable to plug into the Hotwire and I can plug that into my charger and it powers on the Hotwire box just fine. I can even connect to it with my phone, but the software itself doesn't have the servo programming in it. So, I think their answer of 'it needs power' is BS. There are ample ways to get USB power to the Hotwire box without using the ESC. I think it is lazy programming from Tekin and they are using the power thing as an excuse.
Do most people bring a laptop with them to the track? I haven't seen that. Although, I don't know that I have seen anyone else running a Tekin servo. Maybe this is why. It's a shame really. The servos seem to have great specs and the magnetic encoder makes them very desirable for precision and adjustability ( I really wanted to go with this servo because you could center the servo through the programmer and not have to use a ton of sub-trim).
I was very disappointed in the customer service response. Not just that it wasn't capable of being programmed through my phone, but also just the way they worded their response seemed very curt, if not down right rude. I did not think it was good customer service, especially compared with my experiences with Hobbywing.
I raced the servo for the first time this weekend and was happy with it. But the whole experience has soured me on Tekin. I could have seen myself going with Tekin servos in everything as replacements became necessary, but now I'm not so sure.

I am sorry you took our response as curt or rude. I had not considered the tricky way you were able to get power to the Hotwire and Servo with your charger and I will have to think about that some more. There are still some significant challenges to making it work with mobile devices because there is a 2 way live communication for the position feedback. With PC/usb notice that it is a different program than what is used for the esc's because of this unique ability. Anything can be done given enough time and money.... but you are the first person to ask for it to be honest and it would be a much larger project than it seems and is actually 2 projects for Android and IOS.
FYI thousands and thousands of people are using our servos but oddly it is just not one of those products people talk about a lot. Too bad really considering how important a good servo is and how many people would probably be more consistent on track if they realized that.
I am glad to hear you like our servos and recognize that they are truly different in terms of accuracy and repeatability. I do apologize that we do not offer mobile programming for them at this time and appreciate you pointing out that perhaps it could be done in the future.

Hi,
I run a Tekin servo (and speedo [RSX]) in 2wd mod. (Customer, not supported etc.)
With the servo, I use a laptop / desktop at home to set-up the servo, centre point end points etc.
Then track-side use the settings / options on the radio to tune the steering for the current track conditions.
MiCk B. :-)
