I have the same connection on my s5 and what I did was go to best buy and in the Samsung section they have an adapter for 20$ that goes from mini USB to hook to the phone to a regular female USB on the other end, then u can just use the cable that came with the hotwire, it's white and probably 6 inches or so, hope that makes since and helps u out.

I also know that Samsung is pretty insistent on the Tabs using their own OTG cable if they offer one. Easiest way to test this is plug in a USB jump drive to the OTG cable you're using. If you can read/play an audio file from the drive without moving the file, it's working.
We see a LOT of "OTG" cables that do not work and are actually a simple gender changer or power adapter. So make sure you know what you have.

This cable works on the majority of the newer Samsung devices including the Note 3:

The key here is to ask the people there if it supports OTG or not. I seriously recommend looking at the specs online before you buy anything. The issue comes down to the manufacturer of the tablet/device and whether or not they install the software to support it.
You can also generally go off of whether or not the mfg offers an OTG cable, HDMI support, etc.

Just Picked up a cheap (Motorola MOTXT1528BFPP ) LTE Pay-as-you go phone for $10 in the Black Friday sales. Runs Lollipop.
Picked up this OTG Cable to convert my regular USB/mini Hotwire cable. Has a USB Female on one end, and micro USB on other. Works a charm

Hope this helps someone
