Phones I have that all are on Android 4.x but do not support OTG:

- HTC Droid Incredible 4G LTE
- HTC Evo 3D 4G
- Motorola Atrix 4G

So 3 strikes... I'm out. Like I said above, search online for your model device your going to use if it supports OTG before wasting your time buying cables and stuff to use the app just to be disappointed.

I think all androids are 4.x
It needs to be 4.1.x
4.2 is not supported and those seem like newer hardware (dont know atrix) that probably has the newer software 4.2.x that doesn't work yet.

Seems like there are a lot of variables that make or break the experience like the phone supporting OTG in the first place then what version of software you have.

This will be a work in progress for Tekin for sure, its beta for now so the ones that get to play are lucky. Hopefully in time Tekin and Google (or whoever's on that side of it) can tweak it to where we all get the convenience of the app :tire:
Apple, who knows, their in their own selfish world and don't play well with anything that doesn't have an Apple label on it.

Maybe a good work around for those with newer phones is to find someone's couple year old droid with 4.1.2 for $30 or something and just use it for this app. EBay and other sites like those used phone sites.

The Dell Venue 8 (non pro) ships with 4.2.2, and seems from searching lots of people are having issues with OTG on it if it even has it.

All are on android 4.0 and demo mode works on them all. Just will not power on the hotwire.

Its not a Tekin problem (other then they decided not to go bluetooth  ), its a hardware problem that most phones do not have OTG without being hacked from what I have finding.

Isn't 4.1 the oldest software being used now and newer phones on 4.2?
If your truly 4.0, maybe the app will not work on that same as it won't work on 4.2 and you can update to 4.1?

Yeah, Bluetooth that's disabled in blinky mode would have been the best solution but I guess Tekin didn't want to risk having roar or others protest. If its locked out in blinky though... who cares. Opposition would only cry if you were running blinky and could take timing back out after a run (that you were clearly faster than everyone) on its way to tech

The only reason I ask is this.

From some quick research, people are using wireless mice and keyboards via OTG on the Venue. Of course, there is no mention of what Android version is running.

If the hotwire powers up, is that a good sign that OTG is enabled ?

That's because they get paired by Bluetooth.

No, not paired by Bluetooth.

Apparently, OTG is enabled but not fully on the Venue. I plugged in the adapter and a spare Apple keyboard I had laying around and it was recognized, I was able to type within the browser via the keyboard.

When I plugged hotwire in, it did light up so it's receiving power. Enough power ? I'm not sure. Like others when I launch the app, it disables because of 4.2/4.3

This is a Venue 8 with 4.2.2

Going to hold a while in hopes that Google fixes these issues, but more importantly, to make sure Dell will update to a new version and I'm not sitting
on a paperweight.

If your device is running 4.1.2 or lower and when you plug in your OTG cable and Hotwire and no led is shown on the Hotwire your device may not supply power. If it's a true OTG supported device, it would.

As a last try, you can use a powered USB hub.

Randy. For the Rx8 Gen2, is their a minimum required version of firmware in order for this to work? I'm currently running 2.44.

Thanks - Jim

The Andriod App does work on with Hotwire version 244. That is what I am using and it works great assuming you have the correct Android software version. I am using a Samsung Tab 2 with software version 4.1.1

I bought the 7" Iview and it came with 4.2 software! Bummer. I will just wait it out until everyone updates so the newer software works.

Iview is pretty good about having their older OS's on their site if you go look for them ;)
