Anyway I get that is only rated at 3500kva for 4 pole but with 3s. Batteries. I get 3s is more efficient by a long shot when gear correctly. Reason I'm looking at this one is I am suffering from a lack of mounting space. And the rsx pro will fit fine and leave me room for the rest of my electrics, while a larger rx8 will take away all the mounting space I have. Now if my memory serves me right the 1gen rx8 we're rated for less amps by fets but could push the motor then the rsx pro. Yes I get the is bigger with a larger heatsinks. Better thermal Dynamics. I guess my question is what are the ramifications of using this speed controller in my 2.5-3lb car pushing that big motor. Am I looking at a shorter life span with that occasional to Simi frequent thermal shut down. Or an I looking complete thermal run away every time I pull the trigger?
PS I am estimating the weight.

The RSX Pro is not rated for that motor on 3S. Just boosting the voltage without going to a lower KV motor doesn't really gain you much if anything in the efficiency department. If you ran 3S with a 2700kv or so, you'd be more efficient than a 2S pack with a 4000kv motor while having similar amounts of power.

If you do want to run that motor on 3s, you'll need to go with the RX8.

Sorry must have missed ask my question is: I want to know if about 4600 and the rsx pro 2s of course. And I going to see slightly shorter life with occasional thermal or am I going get thermal run away at the first pull.

Mentioned 3s in regards to 3500kva as I believeit to be more efficient set-upand it is rate.

I'm not trying to make a moon truggys.

To the others I do relies 2 pole motor have provided to be the go to in the 1/10 truggys/4wd stadium truck. But no one on my track has pulled the "buy" trigger yeat. And when they do I'll probably go a 10.5-9.5 as a more stock class

Ah, now I understand. I've actually used the RSX with a Pro4 4000kv motor in an SC10 4x4 a while ago. I didn't have any overheating issues as long as the fan on the RSX stayed intact. There are too many factors to say if the overall life of the esc will be shorter. On average, I'd say the life expectancy should be fine but the RX8 will definitely be more forgiving to gearing mistakes or other issues like a blown bearing adding a bunch of drag or something.

That being said, a properly set up RSX Pro will do just fine. Make sure it's in dual mode (not sensored only), your capacitor is functioning properly, the fan is working well or you have good airflow, and make sure your batteries and solder joints are fresh and solid.

Ok that's what I want to know was some first hand experiences it Shure be fine BUT rx8 will be more forgiving.

Ok so last night at the race track, "Skips Rc raceway" racing my Sc5m in Bmod class, 3 min into the race my Rsx just ups and stops, no smoke, no heat, just dead??? I checked the switch and its fine before you ask lol. was running a 13.5 on 2s if that matters at all. Does Tekin still have there policy to send in and upgrade to a new one? Or do I just have to have it fixed. Any idea on cost to fix one? Or should I just buy a new one! Thanks for the help

Randy_Pike 04-14-2019 03:19 PM

We still have the upgrade policy. First thing though, unplug the ESC from the receiver, unplug the sensor harness from the ESC, unplug the fan if equipped. Attempt power up. Result?

LOSIMANJRXS 04-14-2019 04:44 PM

I have it pulled out of the car now, but when hooked to power only with everything unplugged it does absolutely nothing. I do still have the capacitor hooked up to it, and the esc does not smell burnt what so ever. Almost like something just came loose on the inside???

Anyone know what the deal is with the 25x25x7 replacement fans for the RSX? They are sold out everywhere, is there an improved fan due out or just supply issue with OEM...

I was wondering what firmware you are running? Did you have the older firmware and decided to upgrade to the new 272 firmware?

LOSIMANJRXS 04-25-2019 08:39 AM

Yes it was upgraded to newest firmware, sent it in for repair. All they said was it needed replaced for 167 bucks. Thet didnt tell me what happened to it, kinda disapointing being that esc only was used 6 times. Not sure I want to stick with them anymore being thats now over $400 bucks spent for something that had so little use.

The reason I asked was because everyone that races around my area has had this problem. The speedo runs fine with the older version 258. But once you update to the new version 272 is when the problems start. I've seen it happen as soon as the update has been done to two weeks later. Anywhere from not powering back up to just quitting during a run. One guy was able to get his replaced for free. But this is a issue that I believe that anyone who is running a regular RSX speedo should be aware of. I have 4 of them that do not work anymore.

LOSIMANJRXS 04-26-2019 05:12 AM

They told me the bec died? It was set at 6v so that shouldn't have killed it. I seriously doubt they will admit to a firmware upgrade that kills the esc. Guess if it happens enough its grounds for lawsuit or refunds.

Randy_Pike 04-26-2019 02:31 PM

The software is not creating any failures.

If you have an ESC that doesn't work, I'd like to walk you or anyone for that matter through a few troubleshooting sequences to determine the point of failure.

Unplug everything from the receiver except the ESC. Power it up, result changed or the same?
