Default Proper Steps for Charging Lipo?

Hi. I am currently using a Hyperion 0720i net3 AD charger and using AC power to charge my batteries however I was told it would be better to use a DC power supply. I agree with this as my 1st hyperion net3 AD charger died after only a month of usage. I have decided to get a DC power supply and use DC power instead for my newly replaced charger.

The question is...what are the proper steps for connecting the power supply to the charger? Do I switch on the power supply before plugging the charger to it? Or do I connect everything 1st and then switch on the power switch? i heard about someone who blew his charger due to a power surge when he switched on his power supply which was already connected to the charger. It would be great if someone could help me with this. Thanks in advance!!

I turn on my ps which is plugged into a 40A fuse block, then plug the charger into that. Then when im done, I just reverse the procedure.
