yeah, I had it on custom, and I figured 12.8V but as I started ramping it up it was really really low, like 3.2 then 3.4 till I think it got to about 5 before I stopped and thought this isn't going by total voltage.
After upgrade though all was well. |
Yeah, once you pass 4.2v you know it's not per cell voltage ;)
But if you push it up to 3.5v and stop there thinking it's all good... it's not all good  |

When you update the esc all settings revert back to stock so you will have to set it to your preferences again.
The RX8 doesn't have blinky mode like 1/10 esc's do. There is no stock motor class in 1/8 buggy or 4x sct class so it's not in the RX8. Now that you have updated, make your changes and apply changes (I think that's what the button is called to apply changes). Close out of hotwire before unplugging (not sure if that's needed, just what I do). Did I miss anything? |

Opened HW on my phone and what do ya know... there is a locked spec and a spec stock. I don't recall those in the old firmware and not sure why you would need it in the RX8 other than zero timing, but not because you are running a spec class.
Then again, the mobile HW is for all esc's and I wasn't hooked up to my RX8 so it may be there if I hook up a RS. Hmmm... If you are applying a custom profile and when you hook it up it is reading TP1, it's either not connecting or somethings buggy and you should do a hard reset (in the manual, forgot if that's what they call it but it wipes it clean). Remove HW from your computer if that's what your tuning on, reload HW to your computer and flash the RX8. Forgot, this is on your phone or a computer? Maybe your phone is not connecting? Lipo needs to power esc to use phone app but lipo's not plugged in? Almost sounds like demo mode. That's my thinking on it anyway, sorry if I couldn't find the issue, maybe Randy will chime in with an answer. |
When you apply settings you get a message that says "settings applied and you can disconnect esc now"? Sounds like your settings are not saving. I haven't ever had any tekin esc revert back to default settings or anything other than what was last saved. Not saying it's not possible, just saying it hasn't happened to me in 6 different esc's.

It was on my wife's old laptop, a first time ever install of the latest software. I haven't had a chance to mess with it more.
|
Wait... you installed the latest firmware on the computer and your esc had an older version then when you hooked up and updated the esc it reverted back to default settings?

Ok, then the next time you get a second, plug it in, make changes, apply changes. If you get the message saying settings applied, click ok and close HW.
Open HW again and see if settings are the same. If not, try hard reset. I haven't ever used any of the presets (besides blinky in the RS). Always used custom and if I don't want timing I just leave it at 1. |
ok so I got a new motor for my 1/8 buggy, a dynamic8 2200. I have ran two other motors with this esc and no problems. now I have major overheating issues with the motor and wires. any suggestions?

ok thx. I will try re-soldering all my joints. The dynamic8 came with bullet tubes attached to it and it was the center one that first started coming off, so then the deans wires, now a battery connector. the motor also was really hot.
I'm also not sure what function the BEC 6.0 or 7.4v setting does? |

TROUBLESHOOT HELP:
I bought a buggy from a buddy with the RX8 and Tekin 1900kv motor. The car hasn't been used for 7 months now and it was a super dialed car all season. Anyway, I test ran the car but it slowed after a few minutes. Figured my battery had not gotten a complete charge. Charged it up and verified all 4 cells were balanced, and they were. They were only .009 volts difference. Tried again with same result. So on to elimination: Factory reset & recalibrated radio. Changed sensor wire. Recal the radio. Swapped motor for my Tekin 1900. Recal the radio Swapped my older RX8 in. Recal the radio. Factory reset on my RX8 & recal the radio. I have not tried different brand of batteries. Mine might be bad from sitting for two years. But they seem fine according to the Hyperion 0615i charger. I charged up two 4s starter box batteries that sat for 3 seasons and they held a near perfect balance also just like the 4s I'm using for this E-buggy. So with all that in mind. What should I troubleshoot next? |
