There should also be a custom option. Set the voltage to 3.4x6 (20.4).

I've been asking for this for about 5 years, to no avail.

Castle has had this almost forever. The excuse we hear from Tekin is that the high voltage from a 4S pack overlaps the low voltage from a 5S pack so it is not reliable. People who use Castle ESCs know to listen for the number of beeps (indicating cell count) the ESC makes when it auto-detects the LiPo voltage. Yet Tekin seems to think that their users aren't capable of paying attention to this as well as the users of Castle ESCs.

Something just occurred to me: It is possible that Castle has a patent on LiPo voltage auto-detection and Tekin doesn't want to pay the licensing fee.

There is really no other excuse for not having this feature in such and advanced ESC. With all the stuff their programmers can do they ought to be able to figure out how to let the user set the cut-off voltage on a per-cell basis.

Does your fan come on for a brief second when you power up the car?

alright I got my RX8 Gen 2 Refurbs in from Tekin, waiting on a hotwire unit. Fast shipping. I should have asked if I could get more of the white wire color to use versus the red lol.

What exactly can't I set without the hotwire?

Also, I heard about shrink wrapping the solder posts? Is that needed or ...?

I have 2 vehicles right now with RX8 Gen2's and I've never found a reason to shrink wrap the post. I suppose it depends on how you solder the wires to the posts though, i.e. You leave large balls of solder on your posts or the wires are fanned out and are really close to each other after you have soldered them to the posts. Hope this helps.

i do mine because it hides my ugly joints.

i might have a couple pieces of tekin white wire around Cain, i black case most of my rx8s and just use black wire or red sometimes so i should have a few chunks around. if you want them give me a hoot.

From what I was told, the soldering post also act as a heat sink for the esc so i took the heat shrink off mine.

TY@TEAMTEKIN 04-08-2015 12:41 PM

The posts do dissipate some heat, the heat sink takes care of pretty much all of it though. I've never shrink wrapped my posts and have seen them conceal broken solder joints, causing weird on/off operation in some cases.

Thanks for the info, I may hit you up on that, pm me what you would want for it :)

So for the other question, what can't I set without hotwire?

Most likely going to drop one into the ET48 this weekend I am thinking and see how it goes with the truggy 2000kv Gen2 motor that I got sitting here.

The big test I am looking at next though for the other RX8 Gen2 will be in my Tekno SCT410.3 as I am curious on this push control .

As far as I know, Hotwire will give you access to any adjustment that the RX8 has. custom voltage cutoff, push, drag, current limit, timing control, motor type, disable reverse, neutral point set, throttle curves, and probably a couple others I am missing.
Was there something in particular that you wanted to adjust with the Hotwire?
I've got a Rx8 in all my Tekno vehicles and have found them to be great. No issues no failures.

Custom voltage cutoffs is what I am thinking, but not sure. I am figuring offhand I can at least get her setup in the first vehicle before going forward with the hotwire for now to just test out. But blinking lights, etc are not my strong suit to follow hence why I have been in other camps with the programmers as its easier for me and hence why I got a hotwire on the way.

I DO shrink the battery's wires. My motor wires come off the posts at 90deg. so I don't shrink those. The battery wires stand straight up off the posts so shrinking the post and about a 3/4" of the wire is very easy and if one lead comes off, the shrink protects the lead from shorting out against the other posts. Do it, you'll like it. Just make sure you don't melt the fan or case shrinking the shrink tube. And props to tekin wire. Their 12 gage wire looks like 14 due to the thin jacket. Tekin makes it easy to route and still get the current were you need it without bulky wires. Love it, just not the price.

Cant say ive personally seen a Proper solder joint "come off" to justify shrink.

Hi Tekin,
My son ran my TEKNO Sct down to cut off and had a battery post unsolder from the board. I've never had the cases apart on Rx8G2, can I do this myself or do I need to send back.
Also I have 12 Tekins so very familiar with soldering, setting etc just haven't taken case apart.
Thanks,

Cain - I'm not sure on setting by buttons, I do everything with Hitwire. However the tekin is settable by buttons and LEDS only and teamtekin.com has the manual to do that - it's pretty decent. On occasion I have had to update my software when installing a new and if that's th case I think u must do Hotwire.
