Hey guys I have a problem with my gen 2. It's brand new. Hooked up to a HD4300 motor in my tekno sct 410. I'm using brand new Smc 5000mah batteries. I get about 5 min run time until the ESC will shut down and restart every 30 seconds. I'll have no power, only steering. Once the ESC resets the truck will run just fine again for about 30 seconds and it will cut power and restart again. I know this because one of the guys was standing by the corner of the track when it happens and he hears the ESC restarting. Any ideas why this is happening? I check my batteries right after this happens and they are around 3.8v per cell still.

A few things to check:

Make sure your battery leads/connectors are good. Deans can go bad, bullets can get loose. If you use bullets, make sure they're the solid type, not the caged ones.

Make sure your fan is on and working. To verify, unplug the Rx8 from the receiver, power up the esc, the fan should run continuously.

Make sure the unit is updated to 249 software.

All those things check out fine. If it helps.. The power doesn't cut out when I'm driving it, it will happen after I'm driving hard and hit the brakes and then the ESC will shit off and restart on it's own. Almost seems like the volts drops so low in the battery that it will just shut down the ESC... But when I check the battery immediately after this happens, the batteries are around 3.9v per cell still.. So I don't see how it can be the battery.

Also like I said, it will run just fine for about 4-5 min until it starts doing this constantly every 20-30 seconds or so, it will just shut down and restart. Doesn't feel like the power is lower from a low battery either. It still runs fast and hard between shut downs.

A lower c discharge smc spec pack... voltage could be sagging enough to have lvc kick in even though there's still juice left in the pack. Try the two suggestions in the Tekno thread. Your spectrum RX is also known to cause what your experiencing.

And... wire above buttons??

When all if the same stuff was happening to my rx8 gen2 last week, everything in the buggy was brand new and was running my rx8 gen 1 just fine. It all started happening when the gen 2 went in. Exact same symptoms as RACERZ27

I know mine shut off using inboard plugs after landing jump i changed them & no more problems

Theres no wires hitting buttons on the ESC. The truck will run just fine for the first 5 min of the run on fully charged battery. Then the Gen 2 will start shutting down and restarting. If it was the lvc it would cut the power down and still be able to drive, but my ESC literally shuts off and restarts. I just dont get it.

LVC shuts the car completely down it doesn't reduce the power where you can still drive it.

just wondering has anybody had any issues With there rx8 gen 2 going up in smoke.

It doesn't happen from jumps or hard landings. I put the ol grid iron slicks on and test ran mine after I swapped my Rx and ran it my buggy on the road in front of my house and sure enough after 5 or 6 mins... Boom it stops dead in its tracks trying to reset. But on the bright side of things my steering still works

I've got 3 brand new venom 5000 50c packs. It does it with all of them.

Im starting to think its the batteries. I have 2 5000mah 50c SMC batteries.

The RX8 Gen 2 is a beast ESC. It draws A LOT of amps from batteries. I think our batteries cant keep with with the high amount of amps required from the ESC. Im going to try a 7200mah 70C battery on Wednesday and see how it works. I also sent an Email to Tekin, so probably by tomorrow ill get a response back and hopefully Ill get a for sure answer to this.

Hey, did you try this "Make sure the unit is updated to 249 software."

if that dont solve the problem I would get a rma# and send it back

I dunno about that. Folks at my local track are running the 5000 packs just fine on there gen 2's. That's one reason I went with these packs. Man, I hope it isn't the packs, I just dumped 400 bucks on these 3 packs. They ran my gen 1 rx8 fine.
