SMC LIPO BATTERY THREAD
#1098
I believe the 6500-60C-4S will be ready to ship to us 12 days but can only know the exact date we will get them once we have a tracking number.
The 70C have lower IR so you should have a bit more power.
If you want to switch your order email me now as we only have one of the 6500-70C left in stock.

Has anyone had problems with their SMC batteries long-term wise? At least with the latest releases?
Had some issues with SMC batteries puffing up easily in the past...thinking if I should give it another shot or not.

Battery quality is a tough thing to chase it seems. I'm on a battery rotation right now i.e. all of mine are old and useless for racing. A couple years ago I use to swear by gen-ace and sky lipos from hobbypartz. And I have some of those still kicking. But the newer packs from there are total junk. I'm counting on all the positive feedback on this thread to be accurate. I just bought 5 packs from SMC and I'm hoping they last as long as some of my old packs.

We can do International shipping but it must be via UPS as shipping Lipos internationally via postal service is illegal.
This can be expensive so what some are doing are to get a few racers together and order more packs this drops down the shipping charges.

Lipo swelling/puffing has allot to do on how the packs are handled and used. That being said certain models which push the performance limits can have a shorten cycle life. In the end it's a balance between performance and reliability and this is tough to achieve. I'm sure factories have found some improvements on this balance.
For example we have sold thousands of a model and we never hear any issues. Then one customer has 4 packs and all 4 swell up. This tells me it has to be the way they are used and handled but the customer refuses to understand this. Typically if you follow the guidelines in our instruction sheet our packs should hold up for a good amount of cycles. Especially if your running them in a class that isn't harsh on packs like the 4wd SC class.

Not sure how long you have been racing for but typically if you can get a full race season out of pack and it performs well then this is a good deal. If you raced back when sub-c cells were the power of choice you would need to replace these frequently as they would drop off fairly fast. Plus with Lipos you can charge one pack over and over again all day long. That was not good on sub-c cells.
I do cycle life testing and make sure the models we sell are as good as can be but in the end there is always certain conditions or the way the packs are treated that can make them wear out faster.

Last time I asked them about shipping to Europe, the number I was given is $75. It could be worse, I suppose, SPC Racing charge $109
Rather peculiar, if you ask me, because AMain can ship a pair of lipos to Europe for $45, and MaxAmps for $40
I've come to a conclusion that all these smaller american companies simply don't want to do business with Europe. It's too much hassle for them to bother with the Old World, and frankly, why would they want to? They can't compete with HobbyKing who make batteries of similar quality which cost less, and the shipping fees are a fraction of those that american companies charge?

Does Maxamps ship via UPS ? How about A Main ? For us we have a dangerous goods agreement with UPS and have negotiated rates this is the best we can do.
I will not break the International shipping regulations to make a few dollars on a pack.
As far as Hobby King goes they do break the shipping rules and ship via postal services which is illegal. That is up to them to do so.
As far as cost for packs please tell me what Hobby King models are at better prices than ours ? I do understand that shipping will be cheaper from Hobby King as they do ignore shipping regulations.

MaxAmps doesn't say what company they use, but at $49.95 I can only assume it's also UPS. Something tells me neither AMain nor MaxAmps would risk their business by breaking the law.

I'm not trying to make any point in particular, I'm just saying that I'd be an idiot to buy from you when I can get essentially the same product from Hobbyking 2 or even 3 times cheaper.
