Danny, he might be talking about me since I started this thread and my name is in my sig.
I do not work for Danny, I used to use his packs back when I ran oval during the NIMH days. Since getting back into R/C running off-road about 3 years ago and doing the lipo thing I tried several different brands of batteries and was really lost on what the whole C rating meant and how they came up with it. Different brands started this whole C rating war we see going on today and the packs started going to the moon in price and it sucked because I really didn't understand how company A could get 90C when everyone else was topped out at 50c. In March Danny started this thread http://www.hobbytalk.com/bbs1/showthread.php?t=357870 and I must say it really opened my eyes on how badly we the consumer were being ripped off. Danny always had killer packs back in the day and now he has what are probably some of the best packs on the market for a price that we the consumer can actually afford.
He was shunned by the "big boys" when he was trying to implement an actual C rating standard, so now he has introduced us to the newline of SMC LIPO's known as Factory Spec, from the reviews already on this thread and the fact he is selling out of packs tells me he is onto something. I will have my new packs next week just in time to race next weekend and will be sure to post up my thoughts.

Keep those reviews coming boys.

I forgive your double post. Really, there are easier ways to boost your post count.

You were spot on about that. Didn't help that you also have the SMC logo as your avatar, the website address in your siggy, and you hadn't posted since Danny mentioned the meltdown. My bad.

Damn double posts, I was busy and typing between getting kids ready for bed and I got timed out and somehow it doubleposted.....LOL
I have the avatar and the address in my sig because I really believe in what Danny is doing, I am not sponsored by anyone or working for any but when I find a product I believe in I will do what it takes to let my fellow racers know about it. Danny has a pretty big following over on Hobbytalk and he has posted some great information over there. But truth be told it is mostly oval racers over there, there is a much broader user base over here so I figured its about time to have a thread over here too.

For out of mainland shipping it's best to contact us via email at [email protected] and we will get you the best shipping quote via UPS.

In fact all orders shop via UPS unless the customer wants USPS>

If your referring to the same model having 3 part numbers this is to now which connector type is used on the packs.

2S2P is inboard 4mm

2S2PD is with 10AWG or 12AWG wires with real Deans connector for best connection.

2S2PT is with 10AWG or 12AWG wires with real Traxxas connector for best connection.

2S means 2 cells in series and 1 cell is 3.7V so two in series equals 7.4V

2P means 2 cells in parallel so for a 6500mAh pack with 2P this means 2 cells of 3250mAh are put in parallel for a total of 6500mAh.

You take the 2 parallel cells and put them in series and you get 7.4V - 6500mAh.

Hey Danny,

I ran the 42/4600 shorty packs for the first time last night from the first batch . Nothing significant to report because mod buggy doesn't really push batteries too hard but the packs did work perfectly and the quality seemed really nice on them. I am impressed at the documentation you put into and on the batteries, over and above in comparison to many other. Looking at them I think I'll have a nice set of batteries to rely on all season.

Thanks,

Default Why did this happen

I bought a lipo battery ,played with it a few times in b4.1.Kept it charged while not using it to make sure the voltage didn’t get to low .Next thing I know I hear a pop!!!!!!!!So I looked in the fire proof case that I keep it in.And the case to the battery poped open. One hundred and twenty dollar battery

Why did this happen?
because it's not an SMC & you paid 2x the money for it

But seriously, my quick guess is the storage charge is the culprit. Lipo's should be stored around 60%+/- capacity, not full charge. I'm sure Danny will have a better answer for you though. Just make sure when you replace it, look @ SMC batteries & store any lipo @ 60%+/-.

Troy: Thanks for the feedback I truly think in mod the 4300-50C will be fine and the 4600-70C is better suited for stock as the lower IR in stock will help the voltage curve. That being said most Lipos today are pretty good when it comes to IR so there is no miracle packs. What I have found makes a difference is how well a pack holds up and this depends on the formulation and materials used. I have a cycle life test I perform on all packs to see how they change over 50 cycles. My goal is to release packs with the best performance and that will hold up well over the cycle life.

You should never store a Lipo fully charged. Typically this should be in the instructions that came with the pack.

120.00 for a 5400-45C sounds pretty expensive. One of the problems with packs that go through distribution is that they can be very old and there is no battery that can sit on a shelf for a few years and not get affected by this. This is one of the reasons that made us want to control our sales as we can make sure all packs we sell are fresh.

You may want to consider buy one of our new 5600-70C next week I'm sure you will be very pleased with it but don't store it fully charged and read the instructions that came with it.

Danny I have a lipo question for you. Once im done running for the day I lipo store my batteries to bring them down to roughly 3.85 per cell. Is there still a fire hazard with them just sitting at this voltage per cell or does most issues happen when charging? Im still new to these lipo batteries somewhat and just want to be safe with them. I ususally dont charge mine over 1c.
