I've had two that I've been using for the last 3-4 months or so, and one balances perfect with IR's around 1.4 for both cells. The other has been taking noticeably longer to balance, and IR's are more like 2-3 per cell. It balances and charges fine, but takes longer than the other one. The cells are usually not a close together either when I go to recharge it. I just bought another one though. For $35, they're hard to beat.
ya I have a Icharger 406 and it won't charge it once it hits 8.135v it just stops. my other 2 battery a trinity and a team scream battery are all very well balance but the ir is getting up there do to be over 2 yrs old.
I do agree for the price its good. but not if the pack dies after 1 charge. funny thing I wasn't the only new battery at my track to die a brand new Orion 5000 and a orion 3800 both had cells go bad, make me think that there was a bad ship of cells from china most likely

The cells are rated at 90c (similar to the way other manufacturers advertise theirs) , but SMC's True Spec process they do measures the actual amps at a specifc temp, etc. So they list both on those batts.
They also have a very good spiel on C ratings, real life performance, and how much to really trust an advertised C rating on their website. Good read

I'm looking at getting 2x-3S packs. It's between their 7200mAh 131A/90C or 6700mAh 145A/90C.
What's the purpose in them listing such a high C rating? When I do the match it's not even 20C? Castle has said they recommend a 25C or higher.
7200x20=144A
6700x20=134A
I'm currently using their 4S 6700mAh / 131A / 90C on a MM2 / Castle 2200kV motor. When really pushing my truggy the lipo was getting in the high 130s at the end of the run. My LVC was set at 3.5V. My ESC and motor were well below max temps, so it was recommended I go with a 6S setup.

Hi, getting back into racing after an 11 year break. I used to use smc NiMH back in the day and they were great, just wondering why the SMC Lipo packs are so cheap? It looks like their shorty packs on the website are only $32.00, any one have any experience with the packs?

I too used smc back in the day with nimh and still use them now with lipos. They’re cheaper because his overhead is low. The quality of the cells is fantastic. I run every version of battery he has, 4s packs in 1/8, shortys in 1:10 mod buggy and 4wd buggy, and full size 2s in touring car.
No complaints at all. I’ve got Orion, trinity, gens, venom, protek, etc and the 18 or so smc packs I have give up nothing to them. IR numbers on packs I’ve ran the hell out of all year are still great.

Just a quick shout out to SMC.....I placed an order on Saturday morning for two lipos. Got to thinking this morning that I should order two more (bigger) as well as his 1900kv motor. Sent a note sating that if they could ship together that would be great but if not, no big deal. I had every intention of paying for s&h 2x as they were two separate orders. I just received a refund for shipping of one of the orders....they were able to combine them. Maybe not a huge deal to most but to me, someone who is switching from Gens Ace to SMC and a first time buyer, this means a lot. Great Job SMC!

I have a 5200mah 4s SMC pack in my 1/8 buggy for about 14 or so races. Last race the car just died mid run on a straight. When I got it back to the pits after a bit of trouble shooting I realized the battery was measuring 0 volts across the leads.
I thought maybe it was the connector (xt90) so I cut it off and measured straight on the wire... still 0 volts.
I am assuming its not really a good idea to open it up :-) Any ideas? Thanks.
