SMC LIPO BATTERY THREAD

Last week we received a new battery shipment which contained the 4600 shorty and some 7000-1S packs. As you know we do test packs to make sure they meet our standards and unfortunately these 2 models had higher IR than expected. We're sending the 7000-1S packs back to the factory but for the shorties we will offer them as 4300-50C shorty as the IR is within the range for this model.
Anyone who has ordered some 4600 shorties or 7000-1S and can't wait until we get more in please email us so we can refund your order. Sorry about this but it's beyond our control and we refuse to sell packs that don't meet a certain standard.

And that right there is why I support Danny and SMC......he won't just sell anything because it gets delivered....he checks them to make sure they are right....if they are not they don't get sold.

How are you guys storing your batteries between races? To be brutally honest, I've had the absolute worst luck with SMC batteries. I'm a seasoned racer who never charges above 1c, always balanced, stored at room temperature and never ever even comes close to cut-off voltage. I've used countless other batteries without issue. However, in the past 2 seasons, I've had 4 SMC lipos die on me without warning. No swelling, no strange charging characteristics, just dead. I race nearly every weekend, so my batteries don't sit very long before being cycles. 2x 7.4v sticks, 1 set of saddles and a 4s. All were purchased new and within 6 months they dropped 1 or more cells without warning. The only habit I have that could possibly contribute to this (although I've done this for years with other batteries without issue), is I fully charge the batteries after each race day and they sit for 1 but not more than 2 weeks before the next use. Each of the aforementioned batteries exhibited the same failure. They charge fine and I go out for a run and get about a minute or two in to the run and the car quits. Bring it back and check the battery on my charger and the charger tells me one or more cells is dead. I just got a good deal from a friend on an SMC 4S that he used for 2 weekends, so I bought it from him in hopes that my streak of bad luck ends. But I'm still looking for input from those of you who have good success with these batteries.

We always storage charge after the last race of the day. We lost a cell in each of our 4s packs within a heat of each other. Packs had roughly 150 charges on them so I wasn't too concerned but it was the same scenario that Wease talked about, no warning.
I did just order 2 new 4s packs from SMC so we'll see how these act.
