I just purchased my first set of lipos, I ordered 5 Factory Spec 7.4V 5000mAh 50C.
Looking for suggestions or whats the standard procedure for the first charge or break in period.

When you charge for the first few times, charge at 1c (5 amps for your packs).

Don't run them down to low voltage cut off. Only run them for a few minutes. Depending on what your running the packs in, that could be 4 minutes in a 4x4 SCT or up to 7 minutes in a 2wd buggy.

After about 5 cycles you can charge at up to 3c (15a for you) and run them down to 6.8v to be nice to the packs, I cut off at 7v in a 4x SCT as those are the hardest on lipos.

Clarification... when I said charge up to 3a, that's what smc advises as the highest rate to get a good charge.
2c (10a) is the best for a fast charge. Anywhere in between 2c down to 1c is fine, smc suggests not charging below 1c (5a).

No they aren't as yet, they are Danny's newest packs with new cells, if they cell well and the demand is there they will be sent for roar approval.

Justin

That's an odd way to look at it.. They would probably sell well (better) if they were roar approved. :P

Might be an odd way to look at it, but your not the one footing the bill to have your packs approved. he has plenty of packs that are ROAR approved. Contrary to popular belief Roar approval does not mean a pack will sell.

Ya, the batteries are great regardless of roar approval. I'd rather get a good battery for less money, but I don't compete in any roar sanctioned events.

Any word on the square packs arrival date.

Best place to check future shipments is through their Facebook page. You ask on there and you usually get a response in the same day. Search SMC Racing and it should come up.

OK, I was excited to try some SMC batteries at Motorama but the postal service is really screwing me over. I got 2 day Priority shipping and I live in PA (like 5 hours from SMC). They shipped on Monday and I still don't have them...they have sat in Philly for a day. I realize that weather isn't playing nice but they were supposed to be here Wednesday before the storm even hit. If I get them tomorrow I won't be around and I'll only be alb e to use them Sunday during the mains. It not SMC's fault but I am so pissed right now...can we get a different shipping option?

That sucks! Yea SMC is quick I ordered 5 packs Saturday night online and I had them by Tuesday lunchtime and I'm near Philly.

I ordered 3 7200mah Tuesday and got them today I live in north west tn.

lappdawg27 02-15-2014 02:26 AM

Looks like I'll get them today judging by the tracking info. Thankfully at Motorama I'll have plenty of time to charge the 2 packs that I have between races. Looks like the SMCs will be in for the mains on Sunday.
