Any idea when the square packs will be in stock? Have a couple on preorder.

They should be here the end of Feb.

Biggest difference and the reason they cost more is because Danny had U.S. wire shipped over to have used in the SS-1 motors.

I personally have the 13.5 in my Stadium truck and SC truck, they are awesome, I run the 8.5 in my mod SC truck and just got the 6.5 for my 22-4.
I think the 8.5 has all the power I need for the track I run on and it never gets hot. he 13.5's I actually turned up the timing higher than I had my Tekin Gen2 motors and have less heat and more performance.

Not sure I would say it's more of an offroad motor, They work great in off-road, Danny is an Oval guy from way back. he made the ss motors to try to compete with the D 3.5's and such. He wanted to release a strong motor from the get go and not have to have guys need to buy different rotors and such just to compete.

Do you use an aluminum or composite idle gear in your 22t/22sct?

Not yet but I will be buying some soon, my last 2 race days I have fried an idler gear in both of my 22sct's, one with the 13.5 and one with the 8.5. I have stripped 3 total all in high traction applications. All in Mid motor form.

Good quality product - check!
Amazing customer service - check!

Yep, lifelong customer here. Danny went above and beyond to accomodate a change in my order. I can't recommend SMC strongly enough!

I just ordered a SMC SS1 17.5t motor w/ ceramic bearing for my 22sct. I can't wait to check it out. I was gonna order a 8.5 also but I knew I would need to order an aluminum idle gear & rear stock driveshafts..

I'm currently geared at 27/76 with 20 degrees of end bell motor timing on my D3.5 Maxzilla team driver spec motor..Does anyone have gearing suggestions for the SS1 motor?

zeakemedia 02-04-2014 03:41 PM

Now I did this in my buggy but I used the exact same gearing and it was fine. I'm going to try a lower spur/higher pinion and see what happens. I have no time to practice so I have to try things during the race day.

I would gear it the same and watch the temps, It comes stock with 26 degrees of timing and you can turn it up to 60 degrees.

I have an SM-1 8.5 motor, can you rotate the endbell so the sensor plug is offset from the solder tabs.

I would check it on another charger. I thought i had a few bad packs (different brand) and it was the charger giving false data.
