It could be an issue with the BEC circuit....

Digital servos draw more power than analog, plus when they lose power they have to reset.

Notice when you turn them on, it takes a sec for them to power up.

I purchased one unit last week. In reading these posts, I can say I am not too worried if the unit I bought seems sluggish (I haven't used it yet) as I know Horizon is a reputable company as well as my LHS and I will be taken care of if my unit does have a problem.

Unfortunatley, sometimes this stuff happends. This is a realitively new technology for a new application and with all the public interest sometimes this stuff gets rushed and problems occur. In the end all issues will be resolved and all customers will be satisified. Sure it stinks that you might have purchased and item that doesn't work as advertised but relax. Reinstall your normal radio equipment and run your cars and have fun until the issue gets fixed.

I have heard from several A-main drivers at the SnowBirds that they had the Specktrums but didn't run them because at the time they were not sure if the response issue was was resolved. So instead of trying it and having to possibly switch back, they just didn't use it. This leads me to believe that Spectrum was aware of the problem and hopefully most of the units that reached the general public were corrected. There are 3 guys at my track that run these (not sponsored drivers, they bought them from the LHS)and love them to death. The mention they are faster than normal and not slower. So in the end, I know this will be an incredible product!!

Exclamation FIX TO SERVO COMPATIBILITY/SPEED

I recently ordered a spectrum, and to my surprise, it didn't work either....

First it took about 500 tries to get the TX module to go into bind mode, but it finally did.

Then, as others reported, my servo would go back and forth if I touched the steering. I was using a JR4735. I also tried NUMEROUS other servos and had the same problem.

BUT I FIXED THAT

Heres how.

I used a Novak 4700 mp capacitor and wired it to a servo plug and pluged it into the Batt/Aux slot on the receiver.

PROBLEM FIXED. The recevier and servo work EXCELLENT. And I have not noticed ANY lag time, infact it feels like the response is faster and more crisp.

I say to anybody who has this system and has had any related problems to try this modification. It made 100% difference in my car.

PitCrew: good idea...

That is the same as the old Novak Sutter Stopper....

The cap acts a battery and keeps the BEC volatage up.....

This would make me think it is an issue with BEC voltage/current.

Yup,

I'm running a Q2 which has fairly low bec voltage and amps.

The Cap solves all the problems. If fact, if I just unplug it, the car goes nuts, then plug it in, everything is smooooth.

Give it a shot. I tried a smaller capacitor, but it didn't work. Just use the novak cap plugged stright into the receiver.

No...you didn't, and neither did I. My main point is that we really should cut down on the sewing circle crap around here, lest it be called www.rctechrumorsandinnuendo.com

Man relax...

I was at the Birds' as were many others and when all said and done, I could only count two individuals still using the Spektrum. NO factory drivers ran the Spektrum NONE. If they were running it, the system was only tried during practice which was then quickly taken out.

No, I didn't major in "electronic theory and design" in college. Not needed to have an opinion. I can say I did purchase the system at the Birds' and was pumped to try it out. However, the excitement turned to disappointment, the car felt reactively slow to input. Once I switched back to the standard system, it was an instant fix.

Does this mean I'm pissed off and the system sucks? NO, I'll be trying it outside, where from my understanding has much cleaner air? I must also say that at no time did my car glitch. Also, I have been assured that if and when Spektrum staff figure this out we can send our units in for reprogramming.

Maybe Todd Hodge could shed some light on the Spektrum at the Birds'.

I would suspect that if you were using a receiver pack, say for a gas car, it would work fine, because the voltage and aperage is there. If it got low, you would have problems.

I also suspect that if these guys complaining of slow response time on the steering use a cap, it will increase that speed. But I don't know for sure.

Dont forget that the receiver itselft draws TWICE as much current as a standard receiver.

Pit - I was under the impression that the Spektrum receiver drawls less voltage than a standard receiver...???? Interesting nonetheless.

Transmitter is more effecient, but receiver (transceiver) draws more current than a regular receiver.

All this feed back is great. Im going to try the Novak cap thing next week. I would be nice if Horizon would formally address this issue by stating in fact that the cap solution is a proper fix or ship it in for a software update or something!!! We all know that there are some issues, they cant B.S. their way out of that!
