Gens Ace Batteries Thread.

I don't want to get into a pissing match, but I find it funny how you call the pack connectors sub par, but use Deans on the batteries. The battery is capable of putting out 300 amps continous, and yet the deans connector can handle about 70 according to what I've found on the net. Even the basic VXL slash motor is rated at about a 60amp current, and that isn't max.
i'm sure the Deans are awesome for brushed motors, as were being used since the stone ages, but with brushless and lipos and the ability to supply gobs of current, a better connector is needed sometimes.

Bought five gens ace packs for my vta, and they will be the last five I ever buy. First cycle had one burst and throw flames four feet high. This was on a 2s 5000mah charging 1C on a high end charger and I balance every time. Out of the sunlight with moving air over them. Not very good experience with hobby partz stuff in general though. Had a charger crap out up in a smoking fury on the first charge and since it was over a month past the purchase date (I am a poor college kid and bought a what little stuff I could at christmas in prep for the spring onroad season but never even opened the package)they basically said oh well.

But what customer support would you possibly need for a lipo?
I could by 3-4 gens packs for the cost of 1 of some name brand packs that are the same pack with a diff label.. Ok lets say I did actually have an issue with gens ace (which I haven't and most don't), who cares. Get rid of it and buy another, your still far far ahead..

I have 2 brand new 4s and that same exact thing happen to both of them...........but it's user error I knew better than to strap my packs in like I did but did it anyway now I'm stuck with 2 packs I'm not sure how I'm going to save them. I already tried to solder them but no go it won't stick

2 30C 4000mAh with Deans ultra pugs used in 2wd mod buggy 10 minute mains and mini cooper racing. No problems, great performance, great price. These are not the hottest batteries, but I don't need that.
What I need are shorty packs. Any news if/when Gens Ace will have them, Gabriel?

djs, thats strange. I had a battery clip come loose on my slash last weekend and the hold down came off, the pack came loose and the battery actually fell out, unplugging an EC5 connector along the way. Not a problem yet and the only "damage" was a slight tear in the sticker and a scratch on the case from getting run over.
I wonder if it is a certain C rated pack or perhaps a mfg date. I know when I was trying to get some 50c batteries I read a lot that the non direct version packs were having solder connection issues on the bullet connectors. I wound up grabbing the 40c direct wired packs and they seem very solid so far.

Lift trucks and other big industrial applications usually use the Anderson-Sermos "Power Pole" connectors. Those used to be big in R/C but are now practically non-existent. This is really a matter of preference because most of the modern name-brand connectors have lower resistance than the wire they are attached to. Bullets are convenient because they can fit into chassis applications where some direct wired batteries won't. Traxxas connectors are very good and very popular. If you like them, just stay with them. You can also use the bullets and make a Traxxas adapter. In theory you aren't losing anything by doing so, but more connectors = more potential points of failure.

Understood....and I wouldn't be pissed if it was user error. I make darn sure the pack is secured and the leads won't be subjected to bonucing as to break connectors & solider joints. The pack and leads were still secured when I removed the body, just poor quality craftmanship, materials, or both.
I'm going to spend the day trying to save both packs lol

If you put the wires in the straps the your subjecting the tabs to too much stress ans they wil tear/break. Now if your just making sure they aren't bouncing around with zip ties then prolly a bad batch but I'm sure you put too much stress on the wires/tabs

On a better note....I finally got thru to tech support and they've sent me a return number, said they would make good on the battery. I'll have to wait 3-6 weeks to get replacement, out of stock again.

I just received (4) 5800 45c 2s batteries today and (4) 5000 65c 2s batteries today and they all came with deans connectors. When they come in the new ones that I just got are only in stock for abouta week and they are all sold out. They really are one of the best batteries out therefor the price. You have to call HobbyPartz and find out when they are coming in stock and check the web site everyday. They have some 5300 45c 2s packs that I saw an ad for but arent on the HobbyPartz website so I email Jen fron GensAce and ask her questions if I cant get ahold of anyone at HP. Gabriel when are you coming down to Tinas and race with us.
