Default Update to the Ice

Thinking about buying one, have a Quasar pro that has been the biggest POS that I have owned. Sending it back for the 3rd time. Wanting to know from those of you that own it how you like it now that you may have had it for a few weeks.

Thanks.

I just got done using it for a full day of racing... and I've got absolutely no complaints.

I'm pretty fond of the "reserve time" feature.... used it a bunch today.

I also liked checking to see what the charge curves looked like after each charge.

Great charger

Got my two Ice chargers today, they are cycling some 4 cell 3300 packs right now. Since I have been in R/C I have owned a Tekin 112a, Novak Millenium and Pro, CE Turbo 35 Stealth, CE Turbo 35 GFX, CE Pitbull, and the Triton. The Ice is the second best charger I have owned, GFX takes first for higher discharge and motor run. When considering the cost the Ice is the best out right now hands down. Very easy to use and all the functions you need. GREAT CHARGER!!!!

The only thing they did wrong was limit the cells to 10 for large plane applications. But most people now are using lipo to get higher voltage anyways so no big deal.

newracer: I would rank it fairly high as of right now also....

They should have put the temp probe in the box however!
It's the same one the Triton uses. like $9

Sitting here measuring mine right now.

Been using mine for a week or so. Easy to use, love using the dial to increase or decrease values. My only complaint is that it looks and feels a little cheap. However, the features are great. Anyone think the battery pack felt a little too warm after the charge though?

Mine felt a little ont he warm side...but that ws due to the top-off charge.....I disabled it and it felt just fine on GP 3300's at 6A with a 8mV/cell peak detect

I just recieved my second one today, and they are awsome. The features seem endless! My only complaint(which can be fixed) is that the charging chords are too short. You have to have the charger right next to the battery in order to hook it up. Another thing, is that using the motor run-in feature while using a lathe can be a pain, since you cant use the lathes on/off switch since it thinks that there is something wrong with the motor. But thats not too much of a hassle, I just need to learn to do it on the charger instead of the lathe.

Interestingly, I just had my first "false peak" the other day.... and it was one of the first times that I tried charging at 6.5 amps (i typically charge at 5 or 6).

I've never seen my Pulsar Sport or 16x5v6 end a charge prematurely with these same batteries.

I have now used mine on several different packs including lipo, charging and dis-charging. I have yet to have any problems of find anyhting I don't like. The only thing that would make it better is if the display was backlit.

I noticed this charger at the hobby shop the other day... it seemed pretty reasonable for the price as well. (They are not listed anymore, but I would like to try and track one down, as it seems to be a kick a** setup)

Anyway I ended up with another charger, and am finding some of its limitations now. (It acutally has a backlit display)

My queries are:

Does it retain the number of Lipo cells for each of the memory locations, or can you only set the number of cells once. (My current charger you set it once and its the same for all memory locations. &#$ heap of junk!)

What data does it give you when its finished charging?

I fly indoor planes and helicopters and mostly Lipos from 340mAh to 3100mAh and Small NIMH 700-800mAh packs.

The DuraTrax FAQ says not to charge "Park Flyer" batteries has anyone used the ICE to charge smaller battery packs?

I guess the main concern is if you forget to set the charge rate correctly and try and pump in 8Amps...

Are there any other limitations that you may have found with this charger... or do you know of another charger which will do Lipos as well??

Thanks.
