Default Servo Jitter

Hi, I'm experimenting with controlling a servo with an Atmel microproccessor. I have the pulses set up to the adjustable 1-2mS width at 50Hz.

I can control the range just fine but the servo doesn't stay quiet; after it reaches its new position it keeps drawing current blips every second or two and you can hear and feel that the motor is still getting energized. Not so much that you can see it move. The proccessor output pattern doesn't show any jitter with an oscilloscope.

Ideally I would expect the servo to go completely dormant until it gets a changed pulse width but as this is my first experience w/ servos my question is:

Is this normal?

Thanks, Larry
