Default Onyx 235 question

I just picked up a new Onyx 235 charger and am wondering if there is a problem or if the condition is just normal. The only lipos I have at the moment are 4S. One is a brand new SMC 5200 50C+ and the other is a TP 3850 30C. Both of the packs had around 3.8 volts per cell when I tried charging them. The issue I'm having is that the chatger will not charge any higher than 3.5 amps. I had a 230 Onyx before this and only charged 2S packs and they would always charge at the 5 or 6 amps I set the charger at.The 235 says it will charge at up to 8 amps.

Is anyone else using this charger and having the same issue? Just wondering if that's all it will charge a 4S at or if there is a problem with my new charger?

Charging current will be limited by the output of the charger

Your charger has a 50 watt limit when running on AC power and a 70 watt limit when running on DC power (seperate power supply)

50 watts for a 4s pack will limit charging current to 2.97 amps

70 watts for a 4s pack will limit charging current to 4.16 amps

50 watts for a 2s pack will be 5.95 amps

Cheers

Oh, that makes sense. Thanks for the info. Looks like I'll be slow charging my 1/8th packs.

I have the same issue and I'm using an external power supply. It will not charge 4s at more than 3.25 amps.
