Havok 3S Error Code
Hello All,
Maybe someone has seen this before. I purchased a new Havok 3S with Balllistic 17.5 combo. I ran it for the first time last weekend. Up until the Main I had no issues. When running in the A-Main (I tq'd) the truck shut off at about the 7 minute mark. I had a flashing code I thought was a motor overheat. It turns out the code is some type of continuous error. I get the RED and AMBER lights flash together twice and the the Red flashes once. The speed controller will allow me to do the onetouch reprogram but will not allow me into the custom modes. It is connected to a 2s Lipo in a Losi SCT. Any help would be appreciated. |
does this help you out, looked over at the novak site for info:)
ERROR CODE S The Havoc 3S ESC is equipped with internal protection. The following is a list of error codes depicted through LEDs––most flash when throttle is applied. • All status LEDs scroll from left to right––Check blue sensor harness wire for disconnection or motor does not have temperature protection. For proper operation, replace blue sensor harness wire or motor with temperature protection. Check Novak Web site for motor compatibility list. • Red & Green status LEDs on solid––Check input signal harness connections at ESC and receiver. Check input signal harness wiring sequence––Refer to Step 1. • Red & Green status LEDs alternating––Li-Po Cut-Off triggered—Replace or charge battery. Incorrect battery selection or battery voltage may be too low. • Red status LED on solid & Green LED blinking––Check motor sensor harness connection. Possible internal motor damage. • Blue & Green status LEDs both blinking—Possible ESC shut-down due to locked rotor detection––Return throttle to neutral position to regain motor control––Check vehicle’s drive train for free operation. • Blue & Red status LEDs blinking—Possible ESC thermal shut-down— Check gear ratio & free operation of drive train for possible overloading/ ESC is being severely over-loaded––allow system to cool & return throttle to neutral position to regain motor control. LEDs will continue to blink until system is cooled down. • Blue & Amber status LEDs blinking—Possible motor thermal shutdown–– Check gear ratio & free operation of drive train for possible overloading/motor is being over-loaded––allow system to cool & return throttle to neutral position to regain motor control. LEDs will continue to blink until system is cooled down. • Blue & Green (Locked Rotor Detection), Blue & Red (ESC Thermal Shut-Down), or Blue & Amber (Motor Thermal Shut-Down) status LEDs blinking—ESC may have shut-down & ESC’s neutral point is too far off to sense that transmitter throttle has been returned to neutral—Refer to Step 5. |
ESC Troubles
Being the unit is new I did have the troubleshooting sheet that had those codes. Novak's site doesn't mention any additional codes. Thanks.

Hi, I'm having the same issue. Red and amber flash and motor cuts out for 4-5 seconds and then starts again. Timing can be random. Ran slowly in back yard this morning so overheating isnt an issue.

Novaktwo- I am having a similar issue. In my case, i lose all power. When I ask them to the friendly marshals turn it off then back on, and it runs fine for the rest of the race.
I am using a Traxxas Link 2218 receiver |

Thanks for the response. I have sent a e-mail to Tech Support. If Novak has a fix. I will post it here.

ESC Trouble
In my case the code was an issue with the main board on the ESC. The unit was actually rebooting itself. The folks with Novak Tech Support are fnatastic to work with. If their products are as good as their tech support I will be sold for life. Thanks NovakTwo.

All these esc's are faulty/crappy timewaters
do a search for ' problems with novak's havoc" and have abox of tissues ready. there are heaps of threads about these expensive throw aways. They stall and glitch for heaps of users. I had to ebay 2 of these as faulty for the limited value of the motors alone. don't waste your time explaining to novak that you want to vary the voltage from the battery to the motor like nearly hundreds of companies can do better for less money and wasteded time at the track. it's called a working esc change to better product! |
i just got this too i ran for about 10 min and it shut down .Now I have flashing amber and red flashing lights and it resets itself. This will be the 2nd time i have to send this setup back.

I''m just searching my HD to find the list of threads I compiled about crappy Novak s(p)eedies.
I do it to encouage orange power to remember they were once a great American pioneer but now producing trash worse than the cheapest Chinese fudge. Novak own up, man up recall the stuff you know is crap and come back and join the rest of the R/C world making servicable speedies. |
