The results we got from them was 1900 motor was more than enough for what they needed. It didn't require something completely different or redesigned to provide a high level of performance. nick: For the 540 4 pole to 550 4 pole, was actual performance the same or better than a 550 4 pole? Efficiency is great don't get me wrong, however if I am being outperformed on the track by a 550 4 pole, it ultimately won't matter if its more efficient.
If you guys do give it a look again, I know I would be interested to see what you can make. I plan to give the VF4.5 a go here in 4x4 SCT. i have heard good things about it in comparison to a really great motor, the Hobbywing SCT line. |
i hope when viper release the new vtx8 esc, it will be a bit smaller and the current ezlink can be still use

yeah, If it was closer in size to the Tekin RX8 that would be great. Heck, even if just say a few MM less in width it would fit perfectly next to a truggy motor in the ET48. Wanting to give this T8 Gen2 motor I got laying here a try, I bought an RX8 Gen 2 to try. but I do miss Vipers programmer.

From personal experience, the 2100 is too much for the average guy in buggy but probably spot on for Truggy. Sure you can de-tune it, but the 1900 is spot on. Everyone always says 'Oh I can handle the motor, blah blah blah, grunt grunt, stick out your chest'. But in reality, 90% of the country is over powered with a properly tuned 1900. I found that the VF line of motors is very, very strong. When comparing them to other brands, they almost feel underrated. My 1900 always felt more like a 2050 and the 2100 honestly felt like a 2250 or more. No lie, that 2100 was an animal. If I had one suggestion, Offer both motors (1900 and 2100) in Wye winds. I always found them to run cooler, have more torque and better life spans. Good luck with all the new goodies and catch ya next time you're back east! |
yeah I can agree with that the VF8 motors felt like that had more pop than my Tekin Gen1s buggy sized wise. Don't know about Gen2 though as didn't have one in here to compare, But the VF8s for the money offer lots of bang for the buck, been happy with them.

from what I saw at least if you don't mind me throwing my 2 cents in there I probably would drop the 2100 in the truggy.
For me I didn't use it in the ET48 as its gearing range for the track I go to is more suited for 2000kv max motor on 4S. |

For comparison's sake, if you've ever run a Tekin 1900 and 2050, the 1900 is Wye and 2050 Delta (exact opposite of Viper). I also watched Scooby run all last season with a Trinity 1750 in his Mugen and never saw him get motored once. So if it was me, I would switch them... but hey... what do I know :lol: |
Bob: Kv to Kv wise, how do you feel Tekins "2050" compares to vipers "2100". Looking at this from a gearing perspective as everyones stated Kv seem to be a bit different in the real world, and if you have a vehicle that has limited low range for pinion sizes, that can be important.
That 2100kv though, yeah was a beast. I had it in a test run for a Kyosho Mad Force Project vehicle I was working on for snow bashing, it was insanely powerful. Unfortunately I was unable to get other aspecs of my electronics package to cooperate in time to enjoy it in the snow. But if I was looking into it again, that would be on my list. |

The 2050 got way too hot. If I geared it correctly for the proper power band and performance, it would always be over 200 deg, and as high as 230-240. People would say that's ok, but after 4 or 5 minutes, it would fade very bad. After 8 minutes you'll start to notice you can't hit jumps the same way. I don't like every going over 180 in 6 minutes and 200 in 10. The 2100 ran cooler and never really faded so I could hang bigger gear. Problem is that it was also considerably faster when you did that. (I now, problem, right? lol) So if you geared it to the proper temps (and to get the proper power band) it was way too fast. Picture driving a real car in a parking garage and not being able to go slower than 50 mph. It can be done, but you're gonna clench your cheeks quite often. |
one other thing on the 2050 vs 2100... they are different technology. The 2050 will spool up quicker, be less efficient, and run hotter. The 2100 will be slightly slower spool up but offer more torque and run cooler. I think the max RPM should be very comparable, but they will feel very different and require different gearing to get the proper power band.

a 1900 done in the method you mentioned would interest me alot. Heck, I don't know the specifics to do something like that but if its easier than making a specific truggy sized motor and you get the benefits you mentioned, I'd be game to give it a try. |
