Is this for 4s or 2s?
The vtx8 is listed as a 220amp esc. Bullets are probably the best connector for high amp situations. If you are using 12awg wire high strand count means lower IR but I'm not sure how much of a difference it makes. I used deans plugs and 25$ hobby King 4s batteries in my E buggy and could genuinely say guys running 180$ high C rating packs had no real advantage. I have on all esc s the original orange wires like it came , so that could be 10awg. Im running an 4s, the lipos are 3300mah 35 to 70C and 65 to 130C. Im not sure if there was a difference between the lipos runnig the cars, so, if there are never going 200 amps through, maybe for the wire, maybe for the connector, maybe the whole thing never needs 200amps, it just makes me thinking since sometime that there is something wrong. XT 60 connectors are good for 60 amps, I doubt that Deans will be able to do that. So why should I use lipos that are able for 200 amps ore more? I noticed that the lipos with the lower c rate doesnt get that thicker like those with the higher c rate. I have to mention that there was never anything wrong with the performance, all cars run perfect with the VTX8 esc s |
'C' rating is such a loaded question. There are two different types, they are all theoretical. some companies claim "C" ranges -- its like the wild west......
If your running a 4 pole motor on you probably want to be in the 40-45 C range at least. the battery needs a little grunt to help with the amp draw of the 4 pole motor. As for plugs. Honestly, I have used Deans with 4s with no issues, others are rated for higher amp draw, I am sure would be useful as well. That becomes more of a personal choice. I personally have not used bullets with 4s, but I know others who have without issue. If you using 4 pole motor or 4s batteries, at least 12ga wire. With the mah you can get out of batteries today, I don't think it makes a big difference 10ga or 12ga. Also the power these cars generate, don't think you would "feel" a difference in power -- except maybe in your mind. |
LIFEPO 4
Has anyone here ever tryed a 5s 123 pack instead of a 4s lipo with the VTX8 ?

King - with the sale we have going on right now, I found that some places our VF4 was better priced. hmmm.....:D

As I mentioned, I didnt feel a difference with the lipos. i had a look in the meantime and saw that the old 3s lipos from the erevo days had 30C with 5000mah and there also never was a problem of power shortage. I was just thinking which lipos I should buy now, the 5000 mah with45c would fit in the car where I was using 3300mah for the higher c rate. Beside that I thought about changing from XT60 to XT9n for those amps stories. |

In high grip situations like turf I think the punch may become more important, at which point the larger Amps may be noticed. |
Just upgraded to A64 from A55 today on my vtx10. I noticed the brake was much weaker and I had to up the strength quite a bit. Looking forward to putting it on the track.

Yes I recalibrated the radio after. I use to have the brakes at 70% on the esc but that was way too weak after the upgrade. I got them at 100% currently on the esc and radio but might try 90% on the esc and go from there.

Did you change the brake frequency back when you had a55 installed? Also did you have the smart brake enabled or disabled? Spektrum radios have the anti lock brakes thing which could make the end feel weak, if enabled as well.
