Appreciate all the help everyone!

I found the higher the PWM, the less temp in the motor, which just adds to the confusion LOL.

Had a quick question regarding the Viper 13.5 motor that I ordered. What gearing do you recommend for an 87 spur or 84 spur? 87 spur with a 16t or an 84 spur with a 25t? Is that really the issue why people are saying the motors are abit slow? Some guys up here are telling me to gear it pretty aggressively. Also, will that type of gearing shoot the temps at qualifying and race time? Thanks.

84/25 would be close.

So is the motor not as slow as people say it is?

They are torque based motors. Basically you run a bigger pinion. I believe our motors are kind of off a turn from everybody else's. Like our 10.5 is like somebody else's 13.5.

I haven't really noticed mine being slower then other 13.5.

Good, I wanted to run something different up here since everyone is running the same brand of motor up here. lol

Even the trinity or hacker?

As Dustin noted our motors are more torque than rpm based. So when you chose a certain motor - say 13.5. You may have to run one or two more teeth higher in pinion to get the same power, speed. That is similar with all our motors from 13.5 to 6.5.

17.5 is a different story, because yes, compared to most its just the extra gearing to get the rpm/power to a similar range. But one of the motors you mentioned there isn't quite designed to the same specifications as all the other 17.5 motors, so nothing can be compared to it.

Enjoyed a great weekend with my Viper system this past weekend. Raced stock buggy at HP Hobbies in Hutchinson, KS. Stock buggy is the biggest class every week with average turn out of about 25 buggies. We had 22 this past weekend. Was able to qualify 3rd for the A main. Ended up finishing 5th as had a few issues in the main but it was not motor/esc issues for sure. Really liking my Viper ESC. Adjusted my drag brake and throttle frequency to really dial it into the track. Buggy of choice was a Centro C4.2. ESC was a VTX10r.

Sad to see my VTX10 BE go up in smoke on Saturday night. I'm pretty sure it was the fault of a bad motor...I just wish there was a way for the ESC to realize that the motor is bad and not fill my basement with smoke at 11:00p causing me to run for the smoke detector so that it doesn't go off in every room of the house waking my wife and kids. LOL. I made it...phew. :D

Moved the VTX10 from my B4.2 over into the B5 and everything was fine in the end but I guess I'm going to be out $100 for a trade in ESC as my BE was over a year old.

Is the VTX10 still produced? AMain only lists the 10R and then the BE ESCs but the Viper site shows both. With the caps mounted on the ESC on the non-BE ESCs it makes for a cleaner install in the B5. Can I trade in a BE for a regular 10?

i would send it in with a note and tell them you want to trade in the orange vtx10 for the BE vtx10 im sure that would work, go over to the viper broad and ask nikos2002 see what he says.

bds81175 02-10-2014 04:07 PM

Sure can. You get the amount for whatever you trade in towards the new model of your choice.

nikos2002 02-11-2014 01:47 PM

Grasshopper -- sorry to hear that happen to you, yes a motor problem is something that can revert back to the esc to damage it. Like your idea... someone should think about that...:sneaky::sneaky: and release it...:sneaky::sneaky: maybe soon.....:sneaky::sneaky:

With the questions about the trade in - check out the info at www.viper-rc.com/tradein.php

With the different versions - we still sell the original VTX10/10R in orange. As well as the VTX10/10R Black Edition. Over the years we have updated the orange edition to the same specs and capacitor set up as the black edition. So they are 99% the same except for the color. If you want we still sell the surface mount capacitors as an option, but the pigtail style is more efficient for the system.

Should have a new shipment of 10/10R Black Edition next week!!
