has anyone sent an ESC in for repair? i have a vtxr 10 that won't calibrate after 3 heats. i have tried everything i could to figure it out. so i just wanna send it in and get it fixed and use it as a back up

Of course you can send it in if its not working - the RMA form is on our website. Fill it out, return the esc (with a copy of the original receipt). Depending on how your send it, we turn around the replacement rather quickly and send it back via Priority Mail.

Curious about what failed after 3 runs - did it do anything odd? or different? PM me, let me know.

Nick

nick its been over the 120 day return, i can't even find the receipt. i was running it in a SCTE with a viper 4.5 550 motor. i ran 3 heats with it. when it came to the mains, it made a lap then quit. i remember picking up the truck with it still ON and checking to make sure a solder didn't come undone. it wasn't. it gave me a little shock me a little when i touched it. don't know why. i thought maybe the motor was bad, so i tried a couple other motors. they all do the same thing...nothing ;)

PM Nikos2002 or something like that. He will send you good calibrating directions! NOT the ones that came with the VTXR10! I had huge problem with it free wheeling. Since he sent those directions I have not had a problem with it.

I got 3rd place with my Copperhead ESC and 5150KV Motor at the Halloween Race McCullough's Off-Road!!! It was loaded in my Ten-SCTE (MIP)! I know a Viper Spanked the 2WD Mod 1/10 Buggy class also!

Thanks again guys! I have ran a 23/81 and your right ESC temps did drop a little but motor got around 165f after 10min. so I guess I'll try the 22/81 or maybe even 21/76. I also did drop my brake freq. to 4000hz and double checked other settings but can't test yet due to a layout rebuild at my home track Phil Hurd Raceway which has the popular Colonels Classic coming up in Jan. I got third in 17.5 SCT last year and excited about this year. Anyway thanks for all the help and will post back after I get a chance to put it on the track!

A 165 temp after 10 minutes isn't that bad IMO, it has allot to do with running that long. Also things like your drive-train, bearings, etc.... can make some heat. And driving habits (ripping hard on the gas on a high grip track at real low speeds can build heat quick).

Have you tried the 23/81 and 80-85% EPA? Many of the people I know running a B4 with a 8.5 are somewhere like that and just turn up to 100% if they have a real long strait.

I know in one post you said you were running 15 Deg of timing on the can, stock is 30 deg. The low motor timing could also be making it get warm, you have it turned down enough to start making the motor less effecient

You won't be disappointed. I switched from LRP to the BE as well. I didn't get the R's but I don't need them for 2wd buggy and 2wd SC.

The support from Viper and the community here is awesome too. TBH, that is the main reason I gave them a shot.

I to made the change over some time ago and a few others i know that ran LRP did also and i'll be staying with viper, once you get all the setting and adjustments down you'll fine these things are sweet, i went ahead and picked up the pc link and it helped me put all the adjustments into better perspective but that was just me, from mean to lean these things are great.

There is no more functionality gained with the PC Link other than you can download profiles directly from a file vs entering manually on the ProGage

Those of you running 17.5 how does it compare to the comp.?
Looking at vtx10 or r black

nikos2002 10-29-2012 05:19 PM

James - you'll like it, I have been trying to get Ed to carry the stuff forever!! Hopefully, I will caught up with you at IRH this winter. Look for me or Royce Berrio, we can help you out. Can't wait to hear what you think.

Mxer - if you are only planning on running 17.5 you don't need the R editions the regular VTX10 or VTX10 Black Edition will be right in your wheelhouse. Biggest difference compared to the Comp is the abillity to fine tune your settings, no lights to count, you can go in and make detailed adjustments to suit your likes and driving style. Super smooth and silky, still get all the power needed!!
