hey guys.I got a problem with the limtied range that my truggy goes.I wanna be able to drive it out further and still be able to bring it back in.Any sugestions.Im new to all of this so exuse the dumn @$$ newb ?

Limited range can be due to weak batteries, less that optimum installation of the onboard gear, etc. To offer any help, need to know what you're running, what radio, what RC, what batts etc.


There's no universal magic cure all for range probs.

the 27mhz radio systems have always had problems it would be best to upgrade to a nicer 2.4ghz radio.
If you want to try and get a little more range without upgrading:
1:Make sure all transmitter batteries are fresh
2:Make sure anttenas on both the transmitter and reciever are extended all the way.
3:Make sure the "truggy" you said you're driving is on full charge.

Make sure the antenna wire is fully extended - run all of it thru the antenna tube and then secure the part outside the tube with something like fuel tubing or heat shrink. I've seen some that keep the excess inside the RC, bundled up next to the tube, thats not what you want to do for range.

If there's a longer antenna tube available, use it, I use 14 - 16" tubes which help range. Make sure both crystals are fully seated. Always run with tx antenna fully extended.

You will not get the range out of AM you'd have with FM. If these tips don't help, upgrade to FM of a good 2.4ghz system.

+1. Also, make sure you don't have ANY kinks or cuts in the wire. I had extremely poor range with the same TX/RX and it was because the wire had been pinched where the antenna tube sits on the chassis. I cut that portion out, resoldered the wires and now it really goes way further than I could ever need.

Right now it does not have a antena tube.The antena is wraped around the roll cage.I got this thing to keep me busey here in IRAQ so i dont know alot about these kindda things.Im sure when i get back to the states i might try to find a local track or something.

Sounds like that's the problem right there! Get that antenna straightened out and up outa the body. AM radios don't like being coiled around... You should see a significant increase in range once unraveled.

That is the prob, get o find something that will work as an antenna tube and get the antenna wire up and out of the chassis. You will not have any range running it the way it is now.
