I have some batteries that you can charge at greater than 1 c. how exactly do you do that? Do you just doulbe the mah for the battery on your charger?

I have a Hyperion charger if that helps any.

Yes 1C means 1 times the current/capacity. So to charge a 5,000mah battery at 1C you set your charger to 5,000mah (1,000mah = 1 amp). 2C you would charge at 10,000mah (10 amp) and so forth. However, most recreational and some pro chargers can only charge up to 5 amp.

Knowing the brand of your charger is meaningless, what model is it and how many watt output is it capable of.

sorry bout that.. i have two chargers 1 which is the venom pro and that can only do 1c.. the other however is the Hyperion EOS 0720i-Net3.

i mean even if you have a 5200mah pack and you wanna charge it at 2C, you dont want to change the capacity setting on your charger!! you just have to change the amp to 10.4 instead of 5.2 but keep the capacity at 5200.

Yes I'm quite sure. The capacity is the C that is used to charge not peak current. The capacity of a 5.2amp (5,200mah) battery will not change no matter if you charge it at 0.1C or 1C. So 5.2Amp X 2 = 10.4 amp which his Venom charger can't do.

I'm not sure about the 0720iNet charger, but I have an older, updated 0610iNet charger and it doesn't do it that way. You go into user setup and select 2C (or 3C, or 4C or 5C) and then setup the lipo to charge normally. If I wa sdoing a 2C 5000mah lipo, when I told it to start charging, it would charge at 10amps.


Before the firmware update, you did 'lie' to the charger to trick it into charging at the higher C rates since 1C was the only option.

Looking at the Net3 charger manual, toward bottom of pg 2 -"Press DOWN to get to CHG CURRENT. Max allowed charge rate for Lithium Polymer (LiPo 3.7v/cell) is 2C default, but selectable in USER SETUP, LIPO MAX C setting (1C~5C). CAUTION! For other cell types, there is no restriction, up to the max amps limit of the charger, so BE SURE you know what CHG CURRENT setting to use for your battery (see also below text on cell types)."

This is v4.6. Not sure what it was like before, but suspect you've had the same option all along that I got by updating my older 0610iNet charger.

Same as stated above, I think. I have a 610inet and have never done a firmware update. To charge at more than 1C, after I start charging I push the enter button which highlights the charge amps and then increase them to whatever amps I want to charge at. That just how I do it......

Yours has been updated and it's prob set at 5C.

Mine was one of the very 1st 0610iNets and I've had to go thru a bunch of FW upgrades. The higher C rate charging was added early though.

My recent Hyperion Duo3, with version 4.5 firmware, has the current adjustment limit set to 2C by default. The charge value still starts at 1C after you set the capacity.

It can go higher by adjusting the limit in the user setup, I think to 5C. Assuming enough power is available for the size of pack of course. (3C for a 5000mAh 2s, just over 2C for a 4s, for this charger, per port)

Thus no need to fake the capacity to get a higher charge rate.
