DX5E compatability?
#1
Question for you gurus out there. A fellow racer needs to get a stick radio to race offroad. He needs to know if a DX5E is compatable with DX3 recievers (sr2/3000?)
Thanks in advance.

Are yes This is me I just found this post. Thanks Terry your 2 steps ahead. And thanks disjaukifa I guess that means I sell my dr3000's with my old dx3 and buy more air ones. BTW Since I love Tamiyas should I be considering a futaba stick control. I am not specially committed to the dx5e other then the price at 150au being right. It does seem a little cheap in quality terms.

Is there a stick Futaba in this range I should consider? Perhaps if you new one you already would of sugested it. Thanks again I will head of to futaba. Btw I am not a big fan sofar of my dx3. I only bought it because my Eurgle broke which is a 60$ knock off on ko propo helios but I fixed it and still like it better then dx3. Personally I have read that futaba's fail and spectrum glitch or thats the negetivy I have been reading anyway with regards to ground controlls. But the futaba are quicker.Which is what counts I would think. Not that I would know really. Thanks again you saved me a phone call to spectrum which I couldnt do cause I got larigitous and cant talk at all

Heres the link to Tower for its: Futaba 4YF 2.4Ghz Radio System
If you need something with a little more control I would recommend this: Futaba 6EX <-- you kind find this one for cheap on eBay

Yes they make surface systems but they are literally 4 times as much and you can order the parts to make the left stick self centering. I have a 3-Channel Futaba 3GR-FS, and it was 280 bucks. The two I posted earlier are both cheaper and have more channels . . .

Yes the 6ex fit my needs . I realise now the sprectrum 5e wouldnt cut it at all. It's not the chanels I need. I want saved sub trim on each model and at least 6 models. I am not even sure what mode I want to use and the futaba does all of them. Can I assume that all the futaba's will work on the ground? I think it might even be worth saving for a radio in the range of the spectrum 7 se because of the fast speeds it can work at. I am sure speed is everthing with steering on the ground.
I have come about the idea because I have a disabled right arm. I have a fused right thumb and very few mussles that open my fingers up on my right hand. I am having trouble with wheel radios so I thought stick will be easyier. I dont really know what side I will do best with but most likely it will be steering left which is also opersite to ground stick radios. I tryed the 5e and realised I will be moving them not quite horizontally but across the range at a angle if you picture this. Thus the need for more then 2 axis. I am sure the better radio I can afford to buy the better I can utilise it with the limited use I have phisically. For eg rate adjustments the more flexibility with that the better. As the old saying goes Buy cheap buy twice or somthing to that effect. I was so exited when I tryed it at the shop I neally bought it on the spot. I am glad I didnt now. I would of out grown it too fast. I sure it going to be a massive step foward for me so I guess it's like a able person discovering they have a third arm lol

The spectrum dx5e I tried at the shop had spring centering. I am hoping the others have or have a problem. All the car stick controls are not suitable for me for reasons discussed below. I think a heli mode 1 control is what I am after at this stage of my investigations.

Yeah I'm still trying to find the right radio for my use. I've tried several . . . literally several, and I think the radio that will do everything I want the way I want is coming out on Oct 10th.
I've tried the following:
Spektrum DX3 <- Didn't have the mixing and third channel I wanted
Spektrum DX3S <- worked ok but felt like I was going to break it and hated the menu
Futaba 3PM <-- worked ok, but had touble with the simplistic menu system
Futaba 3PK Super <-- Almost perfect, but way more features than I need so a bit cumbersome.
Radios I'm looking at:
Futaba 3PL <-- Looking really hard at it because of the setup for 4WS with the 4th channel which leaves the 3rd channel open. I wish I could find a PDF of the manual to make sure its what I want.
Futaba 4PL <-- This radio might be gold for what I want. Not as complicated and sophisticated as the 3PK/4PK, but should have the channel mixing and setup that I want.
Its a constant adventure I will say that much!

Thanks all for your help I think I got there in the end. Good luck with your futabas disjaukifa I have read the 4pl is so so fast btw I hope the 6ex has some of that speed. Thanks Hey
