I've always liked Kester's 60/40 solder, you can get it at local electronics shops(NOT Radio Shack, their stuff is WAY overpriced), & can get a 1 pound roll of it for around $20. It's good stuff, in fact it's what MANY electronics manufacturers(like the company I work for) use....

Pair it with a good soldering iron and some decent RMA Flux and you're set.
