I understand your thinking but there are two main types of 2.4 systems dsss and fhss. airtronics and futaba are the only 2 that i know of that use fhss, most others use some form of dsss but the 2.4 band is so wide and there is different variations so it would be pure luck to get a non matching reciever to work. So you will need an ae reciever, they used to be affiliated with airtronics, not sure if they still are or not. If you are still confused check out rcmodelreviews.com

I feel the airtronics m11x is the absolute best out there but will set you back 369.00. It is a radio to grow into. A good middle of the road that is very race worthy is the airtronics mx-3x its 179.00 and is backward compatible with the fhss-2 59.00 recievers. I'll tell you though if your just starting out and on a budget I think you would be happy with the flysky/eurgle gt-3 I was telling you about. I just ordered 3 more recievers for mine last night.
And yes, airtronics only works with airtronics, futaba with futabe etc....

Hmm my other post b4 the last didnt take, so, I have an eurgle gt-3 its 50.00 shipped off ebay, also marketed as flysky. It is a ko knock off. 8 model memory, lcd display, great range and recievers have a failsafe and are 7.00. Cant beat it for the price. Ive been in this hobby 30 yrs and this really impressed me. It feels as smooth as my spektrum system.
