The HW will hopefully force down the price of the other BL ESC's, as it is the same speed, cant comment on the HW warranty though?

Buy the HW, infact buy 2 and save £100 on the tekin!

i would have to agree .... on the manafactures having a laugh .the warranty is not a problem as most think , it seems some peopel have difficulty contacting hobbywing . i gave this a shot once just as a experiment to see if this was true , and i had no problems contacting hobbywing on MSN OR SKYPE ..it is listed on there web sight here ......>>>>>Technical Support

I own both these speedos, and currently have the Tekin sat in my pitbox :p It just seems flat and slow compared to the hobbywing.

I think it comes down to personal preference.

I run the SP / HW esc (its a SP GT2.0 Lpf), My friend runs a Tekin rs pro.

we both have the same car and motor. and lap times are within 0.1 of each other every lap, and we are both challenging for the top 3 places along with another Tekin driver frequently at our local track.

The first revisions of the SP software were a little off the pace. but the new stuff is bang on the money - really is.

HOWEVER outright - its not a Tekin beater, But the Tekin is not a HW/SP beater still.....

it very much depends on whos running the car, and who has got the most performance from the motor, you can never go wrong with local club support (if its available), unless your proficient or patient enough to figure out a esc from scratch.

I have also driven my friends Tekin with same car and setup, the HW has a lot more bottom end than the Tekin and is initially REALLY punchy, and then the throttle curve is very smooth from there on. However the Tekin is very aggressive on throttle from mid-range to top end.

the brakes are also very nice on the SP.

Put it this way. Now the SP software is 100% there, i've no desire at all to go and buy a tekin - before this software was released - if i had the money, ide probably be running a Tekin and the SP would have been gone.

Not much between them

well I will be running the HW120 at next weekends BTCC at cotswold in the 13.5 class. we will see then if the ESC performs or not? I suspect it will.
will let you know!

I want to try the HW with the new ESC, but the warranty service worries me. When my RS broke down, tekin replaced it, no questions asked. Tekin is also based in the US, so the shipping was fast and cheap. HW, on the other hand, aren't they based in China? It'll take weeks and a good amount of money to ship it back and forth?

There's no doubt that the two esc are matched evenly. But for me, warranty convenience is a high priority on my list.

well redbones, the tekin is 3.5 times more expensive than the HW. the HW is worth a punt, then complain about the service after! if its not good!

So you are saying I should just buy 2 HW and rotate them around to cover for the warranty down time?

BTW, are there any differences in performance between the 120A and 60A ezrun for stock racing?

yes you could purchase two hobbywing systems for the price of one tekin . so lets say if you do purchase two systems and for what ever reason one goes bad change it out with the second purchase while they other is shiped for repair no down time at all . WOW :lol::lol:

whoopass 05-16-2010 01:05 PM

like your idea of buying 2, good shout!
I suspect the 120A has better electronics, I seriously considered buying the 60A as a spare, but the price diff is about 20.00. so I would recommend to buy the 120A.

Just so everyone knows - I did test this past weekend in 1s oval racing at our CEFX Spring Challenge in Cleveland. I ran a Mamba all day as it has been the fastest in 1s 7.5 and 10.5 where the Tekin has been the best in 13.5 and 17.5 1s oval racing. At the end of the day, I tested with the Speed Passion GT2.1 and the new software and was able to match my times with the Mamba and a 7.5 within a few minutes of messing with the programming. It needs 1-2 minor tweaks but for those who say that it doesn't work with 1s, I disagree. No problems on start up, no cogging and definatly had a lot of power and honestly I was quite impressed for just throwing it in for a try.

I run both Tekin and SP/HW and they are all exceptional esc's and have been using them for well over 2 years now.
They have both had there developement gains in that time with much success going to Tekin due to it being a US company, raced in the US and being more popular in the US.
For support especially in the US Tekin is tops but internationally that is not necessarily the case.
HW however is simply the best value for money and performance and actually opens ones eyes to the fact how other brands that manufacturer thier esc's in China make thier money with exhorbitant pricing but yet still dont have the quality and reliability of HW.
Yes HW has a hassle with support but seeing the growth and popularity of the Xerun esc's that is definately changing.
You can post esc's to them for repair and depending and what is wrong it will get replaced or have a small charge.

which ever way you go will not be a bad decision and you will have a great product.

I agree the price and performance are fantastic with the HW but the biggest + for the hobbywing is the instruction manual for the software and the recomendations given by Hobbywing on setting up for different motors.

This makes it easy for the average racer to get 95% up to speed straight away without having to fuss with all the different settings.

And the brakes are great!

Regards
Mike

A blindfolded shot at ur question: the 120A would run cooler and be more efficient?

If I am not wrong, the resistance in the 120A is about half of resistance of the 60A. Not sure how that translates to meaningful power gains.

hobbywing all the way, huge power and seems to be reliable, ive bashed mine pretty hard, and ran on 6s all the time without breaking a sweat. rarely does my esc get over 100, the hottest its been is only 115-120 (geared 44/18, crazy speed). the motor has gotten up to 140-145 during some longer runs, no biggie. i have the xerun (way better than ezrun) 150A with the 2000kv motor. heck you could get 2 hobbywing esc's or full systems for pretty much the price of one tekin and have a spare incase something happens. there is absolutely no way the tekin is twice as good as the xerun. oh and a little tip on the xerun esc, take it apart and replace that tape stuff they use to attatch the heatsink with some good quality thermal grease. i just did speed runs on 6s (probably geared for 80 or so) and the esc was still only 90-95 after running it quite a while, all high speed. plus the HW program card is great, you can change the settings in no time. thats one thing that i hate about castle. lots of options with castle link, but who the hell (exept maybe pros) wants to bring their laptop everywhere and spend a bunch of time setting the esc?
