Hobbywing vs Tekin
I am in the market for a new speed control, is there any truth to the rumours that the Hobbywing is a Tekin beater, currently at our track there are many LRP's, Tekins and KO's.
I do not want to purchase the number 2 speedie!!! has anyone been smoked by a Hobbywing, not talking about ability just power to ground and top speed. |
to be honest this is a Controversial subject and just gives tekin and hobbywing a bad name , and inevitably starts arguments , a speed controller is realy just a sophisticated ON/OFF switch driver skill does play a large part
|
assuming two drivers of the same skill I would bet a lot of money a tekin RS pro will take out a hobbywing any day of the week.
|
i did my best to stem the Inevitable .lol

The Hobbywing is the best performer for your $$ that's for sure. I don't run one, i'm all Tekin, but you can't argue that HW performs great for the $$. These days it's more about if you know how to set up the ESC, and if you know how to transfer what's happening on the track into changes on the ESC, just like suspension tuning.
FWIW one of the guys at the track runs the latest Speed Passion, which is the same as HW, and he is the fastest by a long shot. But he is one of the top drivers in NZ, so you'd expect that. Buy what you can afford, based on what your favourite colour is, and get out there. |
ban in 3,2,1....
|
This thread does have a little merit, but I can see people getting bitchy.
It's cracking me up these days how everyone is OBSESSED with having the "right" esc that will make them win. Try getting on the track and turning laps. Does a heck of a lot more than a bit of ESC timing....... |
I have both ESC's... here is what i have to say:
For value, best bang for the $ ... SP/HW ESC. For super customer service/support ... Tekin RS/RSPro Both are equally fast ESCs given the right setting for a given driver. Also they work/dont work in some applications. Ie Tekin supports 1s, while HW does not, so if you are into 1/12 or similar, then Tekin is your answer. I find SP/HW has better support in sensorless motor support. Anyway, both are good for my purpose. So think how much you want to spend and then buy the one you want to afford. |

They are both about the same in terms of power. But I feel that the HW has a more direct feel in terms of power delivery. Unfortunately, I have had some small issues with the HW, but no one is answering my PM. Actually, no one can answer my question in regards to how good the HW warranty service is. Tekin has the best service in this, and also working on a new update. I guess you get what you pay for. And in terms of banning this thread, I think the consumers have a right to know which ESC they should buy so opinions should not be censored. |
my 2p worth is that the ESC manufacturers are having a laugh at our expense in selling a product like the tekin for £240 including a USB cable. Also £90 for a motor is absurd!
The HW will hopefully force down the price of the other BL ESC's, as it is the same speed, cant comment on the HW warranty though? Buy the HW, infact buy 2 and save £100 on the tekin! |
i dont know if this goes for or against Tekin but me and my buddies were trying some drag racing and burnt up an rs-pro and sent it in for a repair pretty confident that it was outside of warranty coverage, but from what i understand from my friends we got a free replacement just because they went "huh, thats a neat way for it to have broken". apparently we fried it in a new and interesting way that impressed them and we were still with in the warranty time span so they gave us a new one.
as much as Tekin wins and sells, people forget that it is (as i understand it) not much more than a "mom and pop" company. Castle Creations is a "Walmart" by comparison to Tekin. some may say their stuff is overpriced but i believe tekin is working for and earning the money they get. as for hobbywing, i am unfamiliar with their product and have no comment. |

comments on HW unreliability are pretty bunk, as HW, Venom and Speed Passion are the same damn thing!
