Default Thunderpower - black case or carbon differences?

Hi all,
I problem with a Thunderpower 40C battery puffing back in January/February and had posted it on offroad back in January. I have been waiting since then for a new pack after writing to Jim at Thunderpower. I wrote to Jim again a couple of days ago and he wrote back to tell me they are still waiting for cells. Seems odd to me it would take 2+ months to get cells to the company itself. He told me they had some batteries built in a "black" case instead of a "carbon case" they could send me immediately.

My question to you is this. Has anyone purchased TP 40C batteries in a BLACK (not carbon) case, and is there a difference other than looks? I am wondering since they still have ones in the black case if they are a lesser cell than the ones put in the carbon case. I am looking for racer opinions because I don't see anything on the TP website re the two types of cases. I will also ask Jim, but I wanted some racer feedback first. Thanks.

Diane

Good luck getting a new LiPo back from them. They've been backorderd for months now. And I forget that they're still a small company. It's gotten so bad, that I've been forced to buy LiPos from another company.

As for the case apperance. No, I've not seen anything other than the carbon coverd case LiPos. Seeing a black LiPo from thunderpower would be new to me.

Sorry to hear about your bad luck.

Thanks Foxxrocket,
I'm sorry to hear of your bad luck too. Just curious, what would you be tempted to do in the situation where they said they could send a "black box" battery immediately, but not the carbon. It will cost me $60 plus postage. I'm not sure whether I would take the chance or just go elsewhere. It's hard to know which batteries now are good ones from any manufacturer, and I'm not keen on spending another $120 with an unknown. From what I have been reading, I won't touch an SMC battery. Have you had good luck with any company in particular? Orion's been good for me in the past, but I'm not sure if they yet have a 5000 40C. Guess I'll have to check.

I recently ran a Fantom pack and was very impressed. Try them out.

LadiesFirst,(damn that's an odd name) I got a Lectron Pro. The brand is new to me, but then again so was Thunderpower when I switched from SMC.
