Default Cheap Digital High-Voltage servos

I have a new KO Eurus on the way and that means I now have the capability to run LiPo RX packs without a regulator. The first candidate for upgrade is my Monster GT.

Now, I've found a decent looking Turnigy steering servo that is both digital and supports 2S lipo http://www.hobbycity.com/hobbyking/s...idproduct=9983. My problem is throttle and shifting duties. I don't want to spend $60 ea for servos that don't really need to be all that nice. The Associated servos that come on the SC10 support 7.4v http://67.199.85.166/main/productdetails.php?text=29131, but I'm not sure if they are 'digital'. I'm not able to find a technical definition of 'digital', so I can't even judge from the specs. I'm only concerned for digital-ness because I don't want to burn up the servo. I'm also not sure how well the Eurus handles non-digital servos.

So, are the Associated servos linked above 'digital'? If not, can anyone recommend a few cheap digital, high-voltage servos for shifting and throttle duties on my MGT? It's not like they need to be amazing, it's just a basher.

I seem to have found exactly what I need: http://www.fmadirect.com/Detail.htm?...923&section=46
Digital, supports up to 3S LiPo.

I'm tempted to try my Traxxas 2075's at 7.4v. They're only rated for 4.8v as it is, though.

Welp, placed an order for one of the Turnigy HV-767's and two FMA Direct DS300BB's. We'll see how well they fare when they get here.

Note
the 767 is 46 mm long and might not fit in to your car

The steering servo in the MGT is mounted upside down through the chassis. There's nothing but air above it. Thanks for the heads-up though.

I posted about these a little while back. Going to pick up my 767 from the post office tomorrow. It will be going into my Caster F8T truggy. Will be running an external Castle BEC to power the servo at 7.4V for maximum torque. Unfortunately I won't be able to test it out for a bit because the snow hasn't melted yet.

Well, I've received all my servos and got them mounted now. The weather hasn't been nice enough yet to run my truck and get a proper review, but here's what I've found so far

The FMA direct servos seem to work decently. I haven't messed with the manual programming yet, as my Eurus can do all the adjustments I need. They do not, however, work in DD:ADV mode on the Eurus. The servo I have on throttle duty would jitter to some sort of weird rhythm in DD:ADV mode.

The throttle servo doesn't seem to return to center smoothly. It's smooth up until the last little bit, where it kind of nudges into place. I'm going to poke around on FMA's forum and see if it's not some sort of thing that I missed. Maybe I really should use the manual programming?

The Turnigy 767 seems to be performing fine, save for some centering issues. It doesn't seem to be consistent from left to right. Like, if I crank the wheel right and release, it will return to the same spot every time. If I crank the wheel to the left, it will return to same spot, but not the same as if it were approaching from the right. I will investigate and make sure it's not just linkage binding or the servo saver causing problems. Also, this servo is crazy fast. It's silly how much torque it has with so much speed. The aluminum upper housing is a nice touch for that extra bit of rigidity.

More updates after I do some research and real-world testing!

The Turnigy died on first run at RC-M forum. Hope they aren't all crap.

That was unfortunate, but hopefully it was just a bad servo. The snow is gone here now and all I'm waiting for is a pinion and I can get some runs in to test the new servo.

Well, I took the truck out to my alleyway for a bit of warming up for the new season (and to burn off the rest of my old fuel). Steering is solid, if the centering isn't working right, I'm not noticing it in practice. It's also a lot faster than it needs to be. I can jiggle the wheel and the truck can't shift weight fast enough to respond

Throttle and shifting duties are great. It's got really quick throttle response and the shifting assembly functions very solidly.

More words when I actually take it out bashing!

Took my truck out last night. Servos held up great. Never had a problem with any of them. I'm very pleased at how nicely it steers now. I think I must have been imagining the centering problem, or perhaps it was slop in the linkage. Truck ran numerous straight-line passes down the pavement.

Shifting still blows me away, used to take forever to engage with my old Traxxas 2075 in there.

Come on dude, it's in the OP: Monster GT, for bashing, and 2S LiPo.

I've ran 4 sets of packs through my F8T with the HV767 servo and it's been working great. Amazed at the speed and response. Just been bashing in the park though, hope to get some track time in the next week or two to see how it holds up to jumps and hard landings.
