Both are DSM2 now but the R has the faster 5.5 framerate.

S is for sport level stuff. Comes with useless telemetry.

R is for racing. Its worth it to spend the extra 30 and get the R.

i have the dx3s and the telemetry is not useless i use it for engine speed and rx batt and temp so far no problems without this telemetry tunning would be harder
and now the dx3s is dsm2

U Should research both and decide what you need. I looked and there are 4 other threads that ask the SAME question.
