Hyperion EOS 0606i

Need some advice here....

I am new to electric RC and need to pick a chager for lipo setup. Will this charger be more than enough for club racing? Probably will be using packs such as the SMC 40C 5200mAh or TP 40C 5000mAh.

Thanks.

Thats a 50watt charger. As long as you're only charging 2S, you'll see no charge current limiting like you would if you were trying to charge 4S. It will charge lipos up to 6S, but will take more time due to reduced charge current used to stay under the 50watt power limit.

Has a 6amp max charge, so you're good up to 6000mah for a 1C type charge.

Is this a limitation using DC as well?

Duster_360 09-15-2009 07:06 PM

Yes, it is liomited to 50watt in either AC or DC mode. If you open the manual, it says 50watts LIMIT in the description for charge current. If you go into teh DC 0606i, it says the same thing, 50 watt LIMIT.

I don't think that model has a built in balancer, which is very good to have if you're ever going to charge lipos.

1210 came out before Hyperion started doing builtin balancers, it does not have a balancer and is set up to work with the LBA10 balancer.

So will it charge an 4s lipo? either one, or will it just take longer, and lastly should I just buy a ice charger and a balancer?

Dave H 09-15-2009 08:32 PM

Yeah, a 1210 should charge most 4S just fine, plenty of power. The 606 will too, but you're right it just takes longer (depends on what size 4S of course), only does about 3 amps on a 4S.

Could consider the Hyperion 0720 model with a built in balancer, but then might well need a power supply if you don’t have one already, so I guess either way it’s 2 boxes, and roughly similar money if you don’t already have the power supply.

Personally I’d go with the either Hyperion over the Ice. The Ice with balancer probably ends up being 3 boxes. The Ice buttons are sometimes troublesome, no backlight, less power (probably enough, but not much extra), many of the cool features aren’t all that useful for lipo.

Thanks bro, yeah I already have a orion carbon and lrp 14 amp power supply. I dont plan on charging the 4s packs all the time, just need them for my starter box and like the way the hyperion chargers have the board were you can charge and balance at the same time.

I have an Ice charger that died after only 4yrs of service - the big button started getting flaky and after a 10a discharge, it went haywire, basically screen says its working, but nothing really happens.

If youre looking for an alternative to the 0720i and don't want to buy used. consider the iCharger 106b (6S, 10amps, 250watts) that AMain is selling, it has the power of the 0720i, builtin balancer for about $50 less. Has solid feedback on rcgroups batt/charger forum.

Its big bro, the iCHarger 208B (8S, 20amps, 350watts) may be my next charger.

I just found this one for like 75 as a package deal, Hyperion EOS1210i w/LBA10 Lipo Charger w/power supply. I really like the idea of that i charger.

I was looking at a site that listed the 1210 as an AC/DC charger, but I think that may have been in error. Sorry for any confusion.

The 0606i is perfect for 1/10th electric and any nitro raceing. One of the easiest chargers I've ever used. My favorite charger.

I also have a 0610 charger for 1/8th scale electric battries and airplane batteries. It has a 250 watt output. So if your into or going to be into big electrics this is the ticket.

Don't forget to pick up an alighn/jst-xh balence adapter when you order.

I use an optima 12v car battery as a power supply. Never fails. Even though my 0606i is AC/DC I usually hook it up to my battery because track power is pretty sketchy. I plug a small battery tender style charger to the optima and plug that charger in to keep the 12v optima car battery charged (if needed).
