Default I need a small lightweight PS

I am making a box to hold all my chargers and I want a small PS to fin in the box as well. I currently have a couple HEAVY (14lbs) 10A Radio shack models, but I want something smaller and lighter for my track box.

I was looking at this as it weighs 1Lb, and is much smaller than I have now. I just use 2 Turnigy Chargers at about 4A max each, so a 10A is fine for what I need.

If A Main had it in stock, I'd prob order it now as I got a 20$ store credit still

Depends on if that 10a is surge or constant. They can call it a 10 all they want if it's surge, but the constant could still be around 6amps. That doesn't leave you a whole lot of room. The hotter it runs, the shorter the life. The website does say 10 amp max, but the box says 10 amp constant... hmmm.

If I were to buy one, I'd quickly test it out to your full intended load and make sure it holds up. That way you can return it. It's a fairly small unit, I'd be impressed if it puts out more than 6 amps without over heating.

Just looked, the one from Common Sense RC is rated at 29 amps... That is a lot for the size!

How small?

Walmart has one similar to the 1st, but I can't seem to find it. Thought it was a 7a though....

Strongly agree. In my experience all power supplies, from wall warts to megabuck industrial stuff, tend to only advertise the peak rating. With RC stuff we rarely get the full specs it seems. Suggest only using perhaps 60-75% of the rating for good reliability. Certainly not something I would want to have fail at the track.

Thumbs up

Try this web site
//store.buyreliant.com/servlet/storefront
clisk on powersupplies and look for the PSV200 and the PSV300.
These are a 20 amp and a 30 amp supply, but for the $5.00 difference in the price I opted for the 30 amp version (PSV300). These are the Pyrmid power supplies and mine has worked flassly for just about a year.
