You don't select voltage to charge the batt - you tell charger type of cells (stock batt is NiCd), number of cells (8) and a charge current - 1amp (or less). If you only have a wall plugin type charger (the one that comes with it) - its a time deal - wall charger is a trickle type charger and charges at a given current and voltage. You just plug batt into the receiver type plug and plug the charger part into the wall - usually overnite will deliever a good charge (12 to 15hrs).
The other connection, the bullet looking part, is made to charge the batt while its in the radio - it plugs into the radio and its another time deal - overnite or 12-15hrs.
I used to take my 3PK batt out and use a peak stype charger (Ice) - believe get a better charge in less time doing it that way.
