A friend of mine told me that the antenna wire on the Futaba FASST systems is a coaxial, and cannot be bent at a 90 degree angle. After checking it out, he was right. I had a similar problem until i stopped routing the antenna wire at a 90*. It needs a somewhat gradual bend, and then it is flawless. Try it out and see.

Has anyone had issues with the FASST system.
We have had a few guys have runaways with the FASST in main events. Immediately you would notice that its lost its bind and if left for a while then its OK. Same has happened a for 2 guys in electric who run 3 cars on one radio back to back and then all of a sudden it loses bind. Majority of the top guys that were using the FASST have gone back to 40mhz and are still waiting for feedback from local Futaba agent. Local champ lost a international offroad event due to this after he lapped the field and the system failed after +- 25 minutes. After two races with problems like that I´d make some research and I think the problem is the temp. Using a hair dryer heat the receiver and around 118º F the red led turn on. I´m using a dry ice to keep the receiver cool. |
FYI, i have my antenna wound up 90deg and bound up in heat shrink and NEVER had a problem.
run a capacitor on your receiver. |
3pk vs 3pm

Just wondering if performancewise there really is any difference in the 3PM and 3PK systems?also with the 3PKs Tx you have the option of installing a spektrum telemetry setup the handheld unit simply slides into the main antenna hole, I use this setup which alows me constant monitoring of engine temp and Rx battery level. with the 3PM this option is not available corrct me if I am wrong.cheers
Outside of having a bunch of more features on the higher end 3PKs is the 3PM 2.4 radio just as reliable and "FAAST"? I've been looking into getting a 2.4 system but have only seen trouble with Spektrum stuff online and locally. I have a KO Propo Helios I'm debating getting rid of to use the 3PM 2.4. It's low cost and seems nice. Just looking for opinions and feedback from guys using it. |
I just got the fassst system and didnt know you could'nt bend it 90deg I allways bend my antenna and run it back down the antenna tube.
Thanks for the Info. |

Look at the last 1.5 - 2 inches. If it is like mine, it is unshielded coaxial(small, but coaxial nonetheless).

I wasn't sure what the manual meant by that exactly…I mean you need 90* bend to get it from horizontal to vertical! Well I assumed it to mean they don't want you to make a sharp right angle putting a kink in the wire similar to what you mentioned. Most antenna straw mounts would actually cause this condition, right? I cut my straw in two pieces, the short piece (about 3 inches) I put in the the stock chassis mounting location. The long piece (about 7.5 inch or so) I electrical tapped and zip-tied halfway up the short piece. This way the bottom of the long straw was about 1.5 inch above the chassis so I could have a gradual bend from horizontal to vertical as the antenna wire was routed through the long piece only. The antenna wire is still maybe a half inch or so shy of exiting out the top of the straw, but I'm guessing they don't want you to bend it over the top as with a traditional attenna wire. I still used the cap on top of the straw. So I just did this last night haven't had a chance to run the truck out any distance. |
I have a question for you 3PK users, I am going to be getting one and want to get either the Spektum or the Fasst module, will the fasst module bind with the spektrum reciever?

Nexus, ive had the spektrum system, and had many problems. Now i have the 3PM 2.4 and i love it, the system is so responsive and feels much better than the spektrum. Knock on wood i havent had a single issue with the Futaba, and i can list on a couple of pages the problems ive had with my spektrum.

Futaba 3pm
Im going to purchase the 3pm 2.4 after the first of the year.I currently use jrxs3 pro.Even though this is an excellent radio I have always used futaba servos do to the reliability.I feel outdated at the track with all of the 2.4's tx'n, so I feel that the 3pm 2.4 is a budget minded purchase with the backing of excellent customer service.

I'm picking a Futaba 3PM up :) |
I picked up a 2.4 Fasst system...
One of the RX's has the antenna portion cutoff. The coaxial is all there though. What kind of performance loss will I have or will it even work at all?? :flaming: |
If you are talking about the last inch or so of the insulation on the antenna wire, both of mine are like that. Doesn't affect performance at all.
