I’m going to start on road racing with 2 x lipo batteries, probably LRP. I already have lipo bags for charging (I know some people think these are useless for fire protection).
I’m looking at ammo boxes or something similar and wondering what you recommend?
is BatSafe the only one worth getting or are there other products you would recommend to help prevent battery fire?
thanks

Basically the bags are fine to store them too. They do block the fire.
At home you could put the bag in a flower pot (with a closed bottom) that will prevent putting the shelf/desk into a fire although that chance will be very small, most accidents happen on the track while charging or while racing.
If you want an ammo box, just go to an army dumpstore and get an ammo box.

If you are going to use an ammo box, it is advised to 'vent' the box as they are designed to be air/water tight ... the easiest way to do that is to remove at least part of the rubber seal around the edges of the box ... you do need to leave the rubber seal intact along the front edge of the box (where the clasp is) or it will not secure properly ... I take a lipo bag to the track, and store the batts in lipo bags, in ammo boxes at home ...

I use a general, run-of-the-mill ammo box in which I have removed the seal altogether. The box doesn't travel with me, just the LiPo bags, so I'm not too concerned about the lid closure factor as I move them a foot or so at most.

There is a difference between a self shooting bullet and a combusting LiPo. See it as a fireworks. Black powder in the open will just flash, combusting black powder in a closed space will build up that much pressure that it explodes, that is why you need to vent the case, to lower the pressure so it will not explode.
