Default Which icharger

I’m looking to get into traveling/competitive racing, I’ve just been weekly racing last year or so.. I mainly run 1s pan car but dabble in 2s touring some.. I’m looking for a good reliable charger and I’ve been looking into the ichargers. Just not sure which one fits my needs best.. didn’t have to many issues back in the day with 4cell nimhs. That being said, as of now I plan to charge between 8-15 amps and hopefully have a little higher discharge rate then 2(just so it’s not an hour to storage mode my packs). I’ve been looking at the dx6. Good option? Thanks

Maybe I am thinking too simple but if you have set your mind to an iCharger the choice is limited so you should be able to choose the right one to your needs.

Some posters just want someone to say, yes, that will be good. Not everyone is good at determining if specifications meet their needs, and some may just want some reassurance. So they come here and ask.
I personally have a natural distrust for specifications and will ask others if a product lives up to its specifications unless it is a brand I have good history with.

To the OP, the DX6 is a great charger and I travel with mine over my 308 and 456. But, you are only going to get a max of 46W (5ish amps for a 2s) per channel discharge capability internally with it. To get more you will need an external discharge unit. But even the 456 will only give you about 10A per channel without an external bank.
wydopen likes this.

thanks for the response, I just wanted input from others who have used the charger, and its ability’s. Not jus what’s listed on the box

DX6 will be perfect. I think the DX8 can discharge at slightly higher power.

Including the PS, an AC charger will be more compact, but I haven't found one anywhere near as accurate as the icharger.

the DX6 can discharge 1W higher than the DX8 per channel, but when bridged, the DX8 can discharge at 70W vs the 60W on the DX6

To the OP it really depends on your needs. The DX6/8 is good for travel, its light weight and small and can charge at high rates, but if discharging is your main concern then you either have to research for external resistor dischargers, or regenerative discharge.

If you dont want to have an external discharger but still want higher discharge rates then 456/458 is your next best bet as it has a 80W internal discharger, but its heavier and larger and more expensive.

Third option, you can just get the DX6 and buy an external stand alone discharger like the Skyrc BD250 which can do 35A discharge but does not have any control or logic to discharge to storage voltages. It only discharges to a set voltage so you either guess the ending voltage and hope it bounces back right near storage voltages, or you will have to charge it back to storage voltage afterwards.
